BLEW the other one up. I need a new rifle. Been looking on GB at some single shots. I need something cheap yet good. I was looking at Rossi, NEF, & Remington. I was thinking of one in .223. I have a bunch of brass for .223, and don't own one. It would be used for plinking and varmit hunting. OR I could get one in .270. Does anyone own one of these brands. I have bullets, brass and dies for .270 but don't have one since I just BLEW IT UP. I committed 2 reloading cardinal sins. 1) I got distracted. 2) I was using a powder (in a reduced charge load) that doesn't overflow when double charged.:( It was a Husqy 270 lucky for me it was a Mauser action. Double charge of 4227 (52gr) under 150gr Jword. 26gr had been giving 1850fps and 1moa @ 100yrds. so much for 'yote hunting tomorrow.

I like my Rem 700 BDL Stainless & Synthetic stock in .270

Glad you are OK, and learned.

First time and last. Bought the 270 4 yrs ago because it was a good deal. Can't deer hunt with it in Illinois, so I thought I would down load it to take 'yotes. That's why I was thinking 223 instead of replacing 270. If I could get whats left of the brass out of the chamber, replace the extractor, mag well and stock. I could be back in business[smilie=w:

I new that was comming:twisted:
Good thing I was wearing glasses, I just got done digging the brass pieces out of my right cheek. The stock had an old repair at the wrist(had) split down both sides till it got to the wrist the split into 2 pieces. I'll take pics later and post.
I had been shooting over the chrony, wonder how fast the last one was moving?

Any reciever damage at all NSP? Glad to hear you are OK. If I get interrupted while reloading these days I generally start all over, that's one nice thing about the Dillon I use sometimes, I only have to start over with a few rounds.

If I've got a tray of 50 rifle shells with powder in them I hang a "do not disturb" sign by my bench.

NEF is a very strong action, my only complaint is the trigger but the info to fix that is out there now.

For what it's worth, my son's 710 30-06 is a good gun, no problems, accurate, just ugly.

ugly is the word but they seem to shoot 1 moa most of the time. a budy has one in 270 both of the will shoot 1in groups all day

Check out the new Marlin XL-7.... Very reasonable price with lots of good features..

I bought one yesterday in .270 and was so impressed with it I called them to save me a .243 too. Pick it up in an hour... The stores end-of-season close out price is $246.
It would be worth your while to check one out in your area if you want a "best bang for the buck" rifle..

another step in small charge reloading......one at a time...one charged case, one seated bullet/boolit.
if not consider weighing each round when done.

Thats a GOOD idea! If I question any one I just pull it, but weighing would be better, Thanx!

223 Handi Rifle will be fun and a whole lot less powder per shot.
Seafire Blue Dot loads if you insist on the coated bullet.

I have the Handi Rifle in 30-30 and my son-in-law has one in 243. Both shoot very good and are a lot of fun. I carry mine in my Polaris Ranger around the farm for ground hogs mostly. Shoots the 311041 cast boolit very well.

I'd seriously look at the Marlin xl7 in 270, since you already have the stuff for reloading it.

May have to work on your flinch some.... :)

The sad thing is I was getting 1moa @ 100 yrds.

Anyone know a good way to remove stuck brass[smilie=1:
Seems like the hot gasses were vented out the lug channels (face full of brass fragments) and the mag well.

I would put some penetrating oil in there first off. Mebbe driving a slug down the barrel will catch the brass and bring it out. I have heard of pouring cerro safe on the chamber then pushing it out from the muzzle with a rod. Looks workable here. I would look at fixing this gun before doing anything.
I have the NEF Handi in .223 and really like it. I have other calibers as well and regret none of them.

Good call mroliver77!! Kroil followed by a boolit and out it came. Now all I need is a stock and extractor. Anyone know what stock will fit it? Think I'LL go composit this time.

Might not be a good idea to have a competent gunsmith look it over, may have set something back and cause head space issues.

Glad you weren't hurt. You definitely need to get what's left checked out. Check the headspace and magnaflux the lugs, etc. The action might be usable... measure the outside of the barrel for any swelling, etc.

Theirs my favorite stocks.

You can find about anything here.
Personally I'd avoid a plastic stock. I have AR's to wear that.

Well I figured it out. It wasn't a double charge. I pulled the other loaded Ctgs down and the charge was fine. Then I got to thinking. The 50 cases I always use were in the tumbler so I pulled some out of 'reserve'. They were all too long. I measured them and then measured the one that blew out. They needed to be trimmed. I seperate mine by Mfg. These were a different Mfg.:drinks:

P.S. my face feels better today and all I need for the rifle is a new stock and an extractor.
The recovered case had rifling marks on the end.

Yeah, that could indicate a problem. You might want to do a throat slug in a case and find out what the chamber will actually handle. I have seen chambers with shorter necks than the spec. calls for (also longer).

NSP64

Max length for .270 is 2.540 these were 2.553:sad: I need to trimm them all back to 2.530

NSP64;
What ever you do HAVE THAT ACTION AND BARREL CHECKED OUT!!

That was some SERIOUS pressure. I would be very suspicious of both barrel and action. The ideal would be to send the barreled action back to the factory (or distributor). You got away without serious injury THIS time. Don't tempt the Gods by just putting this thing back together with out having it checked out.
