The mailman brought a new mould yesterday[smilie=w:
A NOE 358318 3 cavity. This is a very good mould. The 3 cavities weigh 250.4 gr./ 250.5 gr. / 250.6 gr.
I am loading ammo for tomorrow, will post range results.
Did I mention that I really like this mould.

I really like hearing that as I have the 358009 coming. Those are some beautiful boolits.

some heat in the mold will help.

Yes, there is a secret, but it is an open secret on this forum. Make sure to use the Bullshop sprue plate lube that you get with your NOE mold on every mold you use. Once you do, you will never again want to cast boolits without it.

The secret to good boolits, is use a good mould. This is my first NOE mould, and it is as good as LBT moulds, which I have always thought of as the best.
Anyway, it was an educational day at the range, some good, some bad.
56 gr. & 58 gr. of AA4350 shot so bad I couldn't keep 3 shots on the target.
58 gr. & 60 gr. of IMR4831 was just as bad.
65 gr. of AA8700 shot great, The first loads were leaving a lead star on the muzzle, and slight leading. The first shot with AA8700 cleaned out the leading and left a lube star on the muzzle. The next 4 shots printed 1.8" at 100yds, It's a good start. I only loaded 5 rounds, so I couldn't chronograph any.
The best group of the day belongs to the air rifle, 5 shots @ 50 yds. 1/2"
The 4 holes in the lower right corner are the AA8700 load.
After getting home I checked the bullet hardness, BHN 12. That must be the reason for the lead star on the muzzle, I guess I should have checked it before loading the ammo. Oh Well, I wanted expansion, and I will give up a little velocity to get it.

Greg, You did not mention your alloy. If it is wheel weights or a combination of then your cast boolits should age a couple of weeks to harden before use. Even water dropped boolits need to age a spell. They will get harder as they age.

Am I missing something here ?

What caliber rifle are you shooting these bullets out of ?

Sorry Guys, I knew what I was shooting, I must have thought everybody else did to. It is a Ruger M77 .350 Rem. The alloy is 95% WW 5% Lino, I am aware that the bullets will age harden, I was impatient to try them out. Does anybody have a good method for annealing the nose on a heat treated bullet? I would really like to try It.

You have probably noticed that I have a difficult time puting thoughts into written words. It must be that I talk fast and think slow. Bear with me, I will get better. I have been casting for at least 25 years, and before finding this forum I have never met anybody else who did. So I have a bunch of stories to tell, but I also type slow so this will take a while.

Don't worry, Greg. Some of us are patient. Others will regale all of us with companion stories, adding to the entertainment value.

If you really have that difficult a time writing try writing your posts in a word processer, editing a couple of times, then cutting and pasting here. Pics will be different but the text will be much the same. I'm not sure about formatting issues, I haven't done this. Is thare a word processor that will cut and paste without formatting issues?

Thanks Guys,
I must be backwards, because I find accurate rifles very boring, but this ruger is very interesting. It is fickle and picky, I guess it is a reflection of my own personality. I became a big fan of the .35's when I found 7,000 gas checks in a small gun shop for the sum of, $3.00 per box!

I thought I had heard of every reason there was to buy a new rifle. That's a new one on me, but I like it. :)

Hey guys, I have bought new rifles simply because I found a bunch of brass at the range. I think the local gun shops plant the brass hoping I will find it.

I always pick up all the brass I can find. Someday I might even get a gun of that caliber. Example: I had two five gallon buckets of .45 ACP before I finally got a 1911. I had 3 buckets of .40 S&W until I took them to the scrap dealer and swapped them for ww's.

Don't get me started on molds I bought for which I had not a weapon. Before I bought a 50-90 Sharps I had one mold for it. Bought two more since then.

Now I am involved in the dark practices of the Holy Black and PP boolits. There is not any hope for me at all.
