Calling 44 man.
You must be a boolit master. I've envied the picture of your set up for too long. What revolver is that? A Freedom Arms? What about those sights? Is that a laser on top? What load did you use for that target, and was it 50 feet or 50 yards?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Thats a BFR .475 Linebaugh. The laser is long broken from recoil and I use an Ultra dot now for hunting. The Tasco scope was just too dark to see through in the mornings and evenings.
The group was shot with my home made boolit, 430 gr GC, WLN style, at 50 yd's. I have exceeded the group with another of my boolits, 411 gr, WFN PB, putting 5 in 5/8" at 50 yd's. I use 26 gr's of 296 for 1340 fps with both boolits.
I outshoot my friends Freedom guns all the time for a lot less money. I got the gun for $715 on sale.

noticed the group under the gun. That's a nice looking piece, my friend is getting a 45/70 BFR and has been trying to talk me into one. I'm just not interested, the look too long and goofy, all out of balance, too much of a good thing as well. I wouldn't mind a 454 if they are in the same frame size your is in, looks a treat. I won't own it if it looks ugly, life is too short. Mind you my 1917 Remington Mosin Nagant and my 1936French MAS are notable exceptions, but they have other endearing qualities, and they are $150 ugly, not $2200 ugly, there is considerable diffence. :-)

I also have the 45-70 BFR and I have taken quite a few deer with it. It is fun to shoot but harder to load for. I have tried all kinds of powders and it shoots 4198 very well with the Hornady 300 gr bullet but my cast boolits do not like it. Pressure seems to spike quickly. I find 4759 and a little dacron with the 317 to 330 cast is very accurate and I get 1632 fps with 31 gr's.
3031 was very accurate but slow and left unburned powder behind. Even 5744 is leaving powder in the case.
I started with Fed LR primers and a new mainspring because the original would missfire a primer now and then. It worked fine until the spring lost a little power so I switched to Fed LP mag primers and accuracy is back.
The secret to the huge revolver is to install a sling stud on the butt and get the 6 foot utility sling that Midsouth sells. Slung over the shoulder, it hangs right at the hip. I also put a barrel stud so I can hook it up to both and sling across my back so I can drag deer.
Here is a picture of the swivel stud. I used a long one, drilled and tapped the butt and used a spacer to clear the grip which I cut out to fit around the spacer. I put a nut on the screw and epoxied it.
I have done this to all of my revolvers even if they are holstered. Makes it great in a tree stand too, I never have to worry about dozing off and dropping it.

If you look, you can see the spacer on the mainspring to make it stronger. I don't need it now with LP primers but I left it on.

That is for a lanyard so when the Huge gun flies out of your hand from recoil, you don't have to go looking for it. :)

I had to force myself to buy my 444, they look better in person..........Buck

Hey, thats an idea. Use a bungee cord to return it to hand so a second shot is faster.

Thanks 44 Man.
I've been away from the computer for a few days.I'd never heard of a BFR .475 Linebaugh until now. Are you comparing it to a 45/70? Yikes...that's a buffalo round! Sounds like fun ,though. I'll have to look into it. Thanks for sharing.

AJC, go to www.magnumresearch.com. They have any caliber you desire.
Here are two groups shot at 50 yd's. The left is 5 shots with the .475 and the right is 10 shots from the 45-70.
