View Full Version : Seating depth for revolver bullets?

I've always used crimp grooves on bullets to determine how far to seat but doing so leaves a bit of a jump between the slug and the cylinder throat. If it makes sense to seat rifle bullets right at the rifleing why not a revolver at the throats? Would I need to rework my loads if I try it? Any variables or cautions to consider?

This was the reason Elmer designed his bullets with a front band out of the case.

Just be sure you still have enough crimp to hold the boolits in the case, so that they do not bind the cylinder.

Here's a pic of where my bullets need to be seated in order to just barely touch the throat. Should I just load it up like this and go for it?

(Thanks for the reminder on the crimp)

Oh, and what's a PITA?

I really doubt you are going to see much difference in accuracy. PITA = Pain In The Butt.

Roger that, I'll keep my expectations low.
