I have a Lyman 249215 Bullet mold and would like a nice load using Bullesye powder in the .44 Spl caliber..can anyone tell me what results they've had with this bullet & powder? I was thinking of using 6.0 grains to obtain 900 FPS. The reason for the GC bullet--my S & W model 24 has .433" cylinder chambers and I have yet to find a bullet large enough for it--as a result the barrel leads up.

I don't remember if I ever used bullseye for that boolit or not. I had great results with unique.
6 grains will spit it out the barrel but, I cant remember the velocity.
I think unique will have a lot smoother ramp up than bullseye.
6.0 grains bullseye can't hurt anything with that large case capacity.

Wally,
I checked a couple of different manuals. It looks like 6.0gr of Bullseye for a 215gr lead boolit will be over max load for a .44 Spl. Lyman's Handbook of Cast Bullets lists 5.3gr of Bullseye as max for a 200gr boolit.

Until you solve the size issue, you will continue to get leading. If there is one thing that I have learned on this forum it is that "Fit is King" when it comes to cast boolits.

Thank you---I will be using Bullseye as I have some to use up...

Thank you---I have five guns that use .44 cal bullets; only the Model 24 requires such large bullets. I plan on trying the 429215 at .431" to see if the GC will mitigate the leading.

Thank you very much--I woudl guess that a 6.0 grain charge would get me about 970 FPS...which will be just fine

Take a look here for correct size boolit molds. The Himmelwright shoots pretty well in the Model 24.

Has anyone used the 429215 Lyman bullet in a Model 29 or a Ruger SBH with a powder charge of 11.0 grains of W-231 and/or HP-38. Looking to do so in hopes of attaining 1,100 FPS MV with good accuracy... Thanks...

Wally,

If it has a check on it, bang away. The 429215 is maybe the MOST flexible design for the 44 bore I have used to date. That's a day or two with the bore diameter. More so with S&W outfits, but works OK in my Rugers too. All you have to do is get the hardness right and it just works.

I will be---I was happy to get this mold as it has the same nose as the 429421 and would work well in a .44 Special. I make my own gas checks now, so I am using them more than I ever used to. I have noticed a difference in accuracy when I do.

I love this boolit. It shoots good in everything.

The one on the left is a Lyman 429215, the middle and right ones are NOE.
