Hi all, Captain*Kirk here.....
I was sent over here by the guys at the Reload Bench. I currently cast for black powder, and am considering making the move to casting for the other calibers I shoot. I look forward to learning a lot on this site. Oh, and Happy New Year!:castmine:

Capt'n, if you shoot big bore revolvers find everything 44Man and Loyd Smale have published here and learn from their wisdom and experience. Welcome to the best site on the internet.

Thanks, all, for the warm welcome! I'm feeling all fuzzy and warm already!

As I mentioned in my intro, I was sent over by mooman and others. I cast my own Boolits for BP (I'm a newbie and I already know what a boolit is....pretty good, huh?) mainly, REAL boolit for my Trade rifle in .50 cal, round and conicals for my .36 and .44 cap & balls. Over the years I've also toyed with the idea of casting for my conventional cals, mainly .35 Rem, 45-70 Gov't, .44 Rem Mag and .380 ACP but just have never taken the plunge in equipment investment. Recent hikes in range fees have caused me to curtail shooting activites to nearly a standstill; If there's no shooting , there's no reloading. The thought process is, if I can save some on reloading, perhaps I can afford the range rates. Still an ongoing argument between the ears at this point, but no matter; I do all my own casting for BP, so I need to be here anyway, right?
One step at a time, so they say.
Like reloading, getting into casting involves an initial investment. At present, I'm only shooting a couple hundred rounds a year at best. If I can justify shooting more, I would definitely benefit by loading more, cheaper.
So, I hope to read a lot, learn a lot, ask many inane and possibly annoying questions while I ponder my next move. I hope you'll be patient and give me the benefit of your knowledge. Thanks!

The reloading bench...I used to spend a lot of time posting on that board before I found this place. I've gotten so tied up in what goes on here, that it's probably been over a year since I last posted over on the reloading bench. I probably wouldn't even be able to remember my password if I went back there now. Does the TC Kid still show up over there? He sometimes had more entertainment value than a barrel of drunken monkeys. Conversely, Sam, & several others were often fountains of useful knowledge.

Anyway, welcome aboard. You will find that this board boasts a fine group of friendly, knowledgeable & helpful individuals. I hope that you find this place as enjoyable as I do.

Welcome to the best board on the net, Cap'n. Pull up a log by the campfire - we welcome casters, for sure. Be sure to read ALL the stickies - there is more knowledge there than one can absorb, so read 'em again!

Hey Captain:
Just my .02 worth..Like the rest said, I think you will find this site to be a wealth of info from people who have been there and done it! By all means plan for year of 2010 to shoot more and save more $ in the process. I cast for my 50 & 54 muzzleloaders both roundball and maxis. I also shoot the larger calibers like 375, 45/70, and 458. I do enjoy shooting cast in my 30 cals too. I really like shooting my old 30-30 with cast. Its all here. Just dive in and enjoy.
