I'm new here just signed in 5 min ago.
I intend to load 7.62x39 cast bullets 123-145 gr
Also .308 in 160/170/180 gr
I have been told the IMR 4895 and the H4895 are the same.
If they are does anyone have any reload data on this to help me please.
If they are not the same powder educate me please.
Thank you

First off welcome to the forum and Merry Christmas!

The two powders are similar, but not the same. Only ever use data specify intended for the powder listed. My particular load manual does not have either powder listed for 7.62X39, so I will not comment on a suggested starting load. The Hodgdon website has online info and load data, I would check there. Also I would recommend getting a current load manual (unless you already have one). I like Lyman’s manual because it has lots of cast boolit info for rifle and pistol loads that other manuals skip.

Hodgdon has lots of good free online loading data. They are the suppliers
for H4895 and IMR4895, they will have THE load data.

Welcome to the site!

If you are not an experienced cast boolit loader, please note that loading to
full velocity in rifles is a pretty advanced level of cast boolit loading. Please
don't think I am saying you can't suceed, but do keep in mind that you
might be frustrated with poor accuracy and lots of leading if you start
with full power loading. If you have problems, I suggest backing off to
a low power load like 10 gr Unique under any of those boolits and
getting some experience with an accurate, but mild load. Then you
can work your way up to the hotter loads.

Just a gentle suggestion, if you are a newcomer to cast reloading.

Learn to crawl, then walk, then run. Trying to run at first is likely to
cause some tumbles.

First off welcome. I have been using AA5744 with SAECO #315 175 gr TCGC in my 308 Win. with great results at 1752 FPS.

..............ugotit33, welcome to the board and thanks for joining. You don't say what firearm you have that's chambered to 7.62x39 (30 Rooski Shortski :-)). I have a small ring Mauser I barreled to that cartridge and a Romanian made SKS. The following was done with the Mauser.

http://www.fototime.com/83F2A6E353CFD83/standard.jpg

7.62x39 28.0 surp 4895, Lee C312-155-2R, 2018 fps. First of all surplus 4895 is a bit slower then either H or IMR 4895 so you'll need to start 10% below this load. This was shot at 50 yards with iron sights and the issue trigger. The slugs were visually inspected and the powder charges were thrown. The barrel is .300"x.308" with the slugs sized to .310".

I'm sure I could shave a good quarter inch off that group by scaling the slugs and powder charges, plus a bit of tweaking with alloy, crimp, and possibly the primer might also subtract a bit more. The rifle is a sporter in all respects. I have many similar (or better) groups at similar and higher velocities but this is the only example I have available online with 4895.

Ugotit33,

Id go with IMR4895 up to 165 gr pill.

No use shooting anything bigger in a 308. Leave the big ones for us 06 folk.

If you must, IMR4350 is better for heavier ones.

I use both H4350 and IMR4350, they are one apart on the powder burn chart.

They both shoot the same, depending on the time of season.

IMR shoots better in the cold, and H shoots better in the heat.

IMR also makes a big puff of smoke in the heat.

Im moving 180 grainers at 2900+ fps. You cant touch that with a 308.
