Well, I'm interested in what mold makes that big boolit.

My stepdaughters BF has a 500 smith, I got him started loading for it. First time I loaded anything 50 cal. At the family gathering yesterday, he said somebody in Alaska was making them, selling them over the internet. Bullshop was that you? He's interested in loading some, I said I'd look into getting a mold. Should be interesting.

Ranger Rick makes and sells them..... Great guy to buy from....

There is a current discussion on the group buy on a mold for these with a HP option.... Should be a pretty impressive shooter....;)

"Ranger Rick" in Homer, Alaska was perhaps the first one to experiment with these monsters. I had Dan Lynch of Mountain Molds in Idaho make mine.
.50 AE on the left and .44 mag on the right.

One thing about these long bullets is they won't stabilize at reduced velocities, but when you get them spinning fast enough, they are VERY accurate... if you can control your flinch. 550 grains is a much more practical upper limit.

What rate of twist does a guy need to stabilize those monsters? Ron

I look at that boolit and then at my lead supply and just say --NO!
I don't think I want to use an ingot for each boolit! :drinks:

They stabilize just fine in my 1:10 twist but I haven't done any long range shooting with them. Contrary to what you may think, the recoil is not as severe with the 600s and 700s because the velocities aren't as high. The 500gr Hornady and Cor-bon loads are the hottest things I've launched and I'm not that eager to repeat it.

I highly recommend Ballistic Supply's sampler packs if you want to try out the full range of 500 S&W ammo.

Try H110 and lilgun if you want to push the 700 to its limits, it will stabilize out of my 6.5" and 10.5" at 1100fps, havent shot it less than that and it is accurate. once you shoot them you will want more so check out the Group buy,

Hi Ron,
My OAL for the 700gr is 2.320 which gives me a good crimp in the cannelure....

Fun bullet to shoot.....:bigsmyl2:
