Here I have a picture of several boolits I have acquired (Thanks to a very generous man, which I must find a way to repay). I am planning on using these in a 22 hornet to see what works best for my new H&R 22 hornet. Now the question. What pet loads do you guys have worked up for these? and which do you think would shoot the best in my 1 in 12" twist? Oh and if you guys don't have pet loads worked up, where can I get data to start? I have had very little luck finding any.

Thanks,
Matt

My BRNO Hornet used to like the 225415 over 5gr 800X for 1900fps. That would be my pick of the bullets for small game. Nice FN that puts game down.

The 225438 shoots well in my M77 Ruger Hornet.

Look on Castpics/articles by members for data./beagle

Hi Matt
Looks like you have a good selection of boolits to choose from. Maybe one of them will work OK in your hornet.......Terry

The Bator and the 3-1 438 fit my ideas for the Hornet best, but you'll have to play around and see.

Nice selection!

I used 12.7 grains of Lil Gun and a CCI 500 primer for the Lyman 225438 and my own 47 gr GC boolit. Velocity is around 2,800 fps and accuracy is around an inch for 5 shots.

I'll bet the 63225 will be a disappointment in the hornet. +1 on the 225438 in a Ruger.

First off, thanks for all of the replies.

Dale: I agree with the 63225, it seems a bit heavy for my hornet, but I have a 1 in 9" twist 223 that I am going to save these for.

Beagle: Thanks for the lead on load data, I will definitely check out cast pics.

I am hoping to get the 415 to shoot well since it has a nice flat point, it should be good on squirrels without investing in a hollowpoint mould. Thanks everyone and have a very Merry Christmas!

You can also go down the main index page to "CB LOADS-YOUR FAVORITE CARTRIDGE" and look around. There have been several discussions. The 225438 and 225415 both work very well out of most .22 CF's. The Bator might as well but I haven't tried it yet (maybe ~3.5 gr of Unique for any of those). I don't know if you can get the heavies to stabilize out of the boiler room in a Hornet case. Are you sure that's a 12" twist? If so, they might work with something like lots of AA-1680.
Fair warning: cast .22's are addicting......or frustrating.

I can't say for 100% certain, but according to Greybeard Outdoors, they made the 22 hornet with a 1 in 12" twist during the time when mine was made. When I get my hands on the gun on Friday, I'll check it with a cleaning rod and jag.

Thanks,
Matt
