My son gave me a bar of what I think is solder. It is marked R-A-U-M-C Standard.

Nothing on google. Any ideas on what it might be?

How big is it? Does it look old?

Wild guess: Remington Arms Union Metallic Cartridge

Yes, looks pretty old.

Why would Remington sell solder?

Remington has been around for almost 200 years and bought U M C almost 150 years ago. If you look at the history of these companies, although their primary products are firearms, they have manufactured and sold various other products that are or were within their area of manufacturing, a byproduct of a primary product, or just a market of opportunity.
Lead/tin body filler (70/30 if I remember correctly) is still in use today, primarily with restorers of older classics. It works were bondo has no business, such as in any stressed area. cabezavrde, you might want to research this more as that ingot may have more collector value than it's simple lead/tin content.

About 1/2" is melted off one end. Where would one go to even start to find a value ?
