What temp is the best for smelting wheelweights? I have been doing over a camp stove with a little RCBS pot. Just found a dutch oven so I want to do the rest of my bucket over the turkey frier. I have read here that if the temp is kept low enough the zinc floats to the top. Thanks.

As low as possible. Just enough to have the melt in a melt state. Do not stir. Poke down through crust, and if melted below, then skim all of the crust off as trash. Notice that this is an overkill, but yields an entirely safe melt for the beginner without requiring a "feel" for what he has. ... felix

I've got a pretty intense turkey fryer setup with several mods. I run it right at 650 degrees F. This is low enough it won't melt zinc and about 25 degrees hotter than the melt temperature for lead, which is just above 625 degrees F.

I hope this helps,
