The last two weeks have been phenomenal for me in the Wednesday night skeet league. I've been shooting skeet casually but pretty well since the mid 80s. Despite hitting many 25 straights over the years, it wasn't until 2 years ago that I did 2 back to back and hit my first 50 straight. I have done it on two other occasions since then, both in the daytime in good weather.

Well, last week I hit my first 50 at night under the lights. OK, that's nice, I guess it would have to happen sooner or later. But can you believe I did it again tonight, two weeks in a row?

I'm on cloud 9 over this.

congrats on the 50 straight. I know it's alot harder than it looks!!

When I was a kid, I had a next door neighbor who was a trap shooter. He took me to the club, and got me into trap shooting. I shot trap for several years.

I shot 25 straight, but never a 50. There's alot of air around those birds!!!

Good on you! I've gone 100 straight quite a few times at trap, but never more than low-30's straight at skeet. (And I shoot about twice as much skeet as trap) I do almost all of my missing at stations 3,4,5. Crossing targets are my nemesis, and I'm deeply in envy of someone who has them mastered. Someday...

My brother and nephew are trap shooters and winners at the state level have to break more than 200 straight to win, which they have done several times. They practice every week.

I shot allot of skeet back in the late 50's. There was a guy who was on the Olympic Skeet team with Robert Stack back in the 30's and another guy who was just as good. For them to go 100 straight was expected. A shoot off between those two was an excercise in expending ammunition with no winner. We finally put together a special 100 bird 410 short shell match for those two to see who had bragging rights. IIRC the scores were 98 and 99.

Bill Jordon also shot in our club, and was very good, but not as good as those two. In those days the Winchester 12 was the most popular gun. There were a few who used the Browning Superposed and a couple of old Winchester 21 Skeet guns still around.

If they would do away with station 8 ,I might get straight 23's. That critter has my number.
I like shooting doubles on 3,4 and 5. For me the lead 3 ft on those stations.
I'm concentrating more on six shooters this year. Target dont move around so much.

Congratulations Patrick!!!:bigsmyl2:

The very best I could manage was one lone 25 straight. But man, what a feeling when you come off the last station. :drinks:

I shot trap in a Company league back in the 70s. Can you believe that, a shooting competition sponsored by a public utility!?! The best part was that the women were encouraged to join, and many did, some even out shooting a few of the men over the course of time.

I just lucky to load a shotgun, much less shoot just one bird. ... felix

it ain't easy.
I once shot 24 straight and the spotter said shoot one more. I missed the first one and if I could have shot one more I would have 25 straight. I usually shoot 22 or 23 on a good day. Never could afford a proper trap gun and used what I had, Ithica 37 and Spanish superposed.
Trap and skeet shooting can become a way of life. I have a nephew that shoots a hundred thousand shells a year. Travels all over. He has no wife or kids.
And I gotta cast my own boolits.
It does feel good to win a match though. Good on you.

Life is good

As far as shotgunnn goes I shoot sporting clays, mostly, and have run a few stations before, but never come close to running a course. That 50 straight must have felt nice, especially the second time!

I just never got consistent at hitting a moving target, plus it's contrary to every aiming skill I have sought so hard to master with pistol and rifle. If you can shoot like that and still pick up a handgun afterward and shoot straight with it, would you tell me how?[smilie=l:

50 in a row? I'm lucky if I get 50%. Scatter guns aren't my strong suit.

Congratulations on some fine shooting.

Try running 50 straight from the 27 yd line. Tougher to do than 100 straight from the 16 yd or 100 straight in Skeet.
