I recently started using a neck sizer {RCBS} for my .308 winch. cases. I have 2 .308 rifles, so I am keeping the lots of brass separate. Anyhow...... As I was neck sizing a lot of 100 .308 brass, a question came to mind. Why cant I neck size my 30-06 brass with the .308 sizer??? Same diameter neck and the die is not touching the body of the case, provided I re-adjust it for the longer 30.06 case.
Thanks for any and all input!!!

The 308 is .003" to .004" thicker in neck wall thickness. But you should be OK if your 308 neck sizing die lets the 06 hold the bullet. Most dies size way more than needed. The shoulder diameter on 308 is .454" The 06 is .436" so thats good to go.

a 30 cal neck sizer works on 30 cals, most neck sizers don't even come close to the body.
i can use my 7mm short neck sizer on my 7 wsm my 7mm ackley and my 7 i.c.l. as well as on the regular 7x57 cases.[hornady]
other neck sizers are actually caliber specific [reddings and most lee,s]

Only way to find out is to try it.

Since you are asking an a cast bullet site, have you tried seeing if a fired case neck will hold your cast bullets ?
Also, if you are useing an "M" type expander die set up, you might want to replace the .308 decapping/expander ball stem with something smaller, draging the expander ball through the neck just helps streach the neck and shorten case life .
