View Full Version : What do you pay to belong to your local shooting range?

The private range I belong to charges $125/year. Target butts out to 600 yds., plus 25-100 yd. capability in a seperate area. (Eastern Shore Maryland) Nice solid benches provided. No hassles from the owner, and only a few basic common-sense rules. Heck of a good deal, I think.

Both ranges here are free. The downside of that is that the less savory members of the shooting fraternity sometimes leave a lot of trash, that the rest of us clean up. Can't have it too trashy, if for no other reason than personal safety.

I belong to a very nice well run private range. It is $40 per year, and you have to be an NRA member.
There are two handgun/rimfire ranges, a trap field, a skeet field, (they are currently building another trap and skeet field) and a rifle range out to 300yards.

The range that I belong to is the Saskatoon wildlife federation one branch of many throuout the province and our yearly membership fee is $40.00 , Then if I want to shoot and or keep my handguns I have to pay to belong to the SWF handgun club ! That is another $100.00 per year . Then If I want to shoot large bore rifle that is one of two outdoor ranges on site ,Another $40.00 and small bore / pistol another $40.00 and just for good measure the key to acces the silouette range is $25.00 per year . And that is basicaly for 5-6 months of tolerable shooting weather . This last week it has been -38 below 0c and then with the wind chill on top of that and it felt like OH minus 50 ish so needless to say not much out door shooting going on , Seems to me like the perfect opertunity to cast lots'o Boolits .

Not trying to be a smart **** but mine cost me nothing other than up keep and keeping the grass mowed short enough to be able to find my brass. I am lucky enough to live in the country and have a range set up in my back yard.I have a berm that I use for handguns set up at 25yds from my shooting bench and I have another one at 150yds that I use for 100 yd shoothing. When I get a chance to shoot my .50BMG I have a friend a few miles down the road that has a 1000 yd range set up on his farm with steel targets and all. It's nice to be able to step out the back door and fire a few rounds when I am working up loads instead of having to wait until I can get a chance to get to a public range.

I belong to a small range here in WI. $25/ year. Really nice shooting range building. Housing 10 shooting benches made from steel frames filled with concrete. 50, 100, 200 yard targets. Pistol bench for 10 shooters. 20 yard targets. Trap range. Clubhouse. Hunter safety training. Youth days. Keyed gate. Open 361 days a year. No rangemaster present though. Only problem is that everybody is so friendly that sometimes it's tough to get much shooting done. If it's not a bolt action 06 or a 30-30 lever everybody's got to take a look at it. RD

Another freebie. It's owned by a cousin who invited me to use it at my convenience. Only two problems, first was a certain idiot that used to cut hay and seemed to "think" he owned the place. He doesn't cut hay there anymore. The other was an idiot that couldn't seem to understand what the term easement meant.

At our club it is $15 a year if you own a share of stock or $25 a year for all others . It has a 200 yd rifle range with 10 covered benches , a 50 yard pistol range with 10 covered positions , an archery course with 3D targets, a black powder range that is a woodswalk course, and 5 trap houses with voice activated automatic traps . It is only 15 minutes from the house and most of the time you are there by yourself , or maybe 1-2 others .

$60 dues per year. Trap range with voice activated throwers, pistol/BP range to about 75 yards. Another smal pisol range of 25 yards and a rifle range with burms at 50-100-150 and 200. An outdoor archery range along with enough area to have a permenant 3-D range.
A nice large club house, that facilitates indoor leagues of archery and BE, with a large kitchen. Two large fishing ponds with a shelter house and areas for camping.
Memebership is limited to 500, initial cost for 1/500 is around $400 including dues for the first year and your key card. There is usually a waiting list of any where from 10-30 people/families. Waitiung time for a memebership is usually about a 18 months-36.
I won't go into all of my pet peves. What gets my goat for the most part is these folks will wait all that time, then never show to a meeting or participate in any of the activities? I have meet folks that have been memebers for10-20 years and they will admit to having not been there for 3-5+ years. Just doesn't make any sense to me. Status symbol I guess, but you don't see a lot of Hummers or BMW's in the parking lot.
Any of the rest of you have problems with memebers that can't read the signs, or think it doesn't apply to them????????

About two years ago, I left a club with pretty nice indoor range. That club was $85/year & $2 to use the pistil range (50 feet, indoor, lead target ammo only). This club, like many others in my area, are shotgun shooting based. It was a great club to trap, skeet, and clays shoot. No outdoor rifle/pistol range.
My present club is $45/year. No range fee (BYOTargets). 100/yard rifle and 50 yard pistol range. The problem is the range is closed when the shotgun shooting is on. That means no Saturday or Sunday pistol/rifle shooting for most of the year.

Yes on the signs question. The sign says clean up your targets. Most of the shooters at my club are slobs.
I am guilty as charged on your meetings and activity point. My club has few activities that require assistance. There is no shortage of people for that. My work and family schedule being what it is, I don't attend meetings. My intrest in pistol shooting is pretty low on my club's priority list and my input is not seen as important. I accept that. In my area, $45/year isn't bad for the little that I get.

$120 year plus NRA membership required. Separate rifle and pistol ranges with covered firing points. Rifle is 8 benches & 100 yd berm. Can shoot closer if all shooter agree but no benches. Pistol has about 12 stand up positions for 21 ft, 25 yd & 50 yd shooting. Have a real bowling pin set up and a separate rack of 6 steel pins. Then two concrete pads for youth 22 shooting, handles about 15 each pad. On one side also have steel targets set at 35, 50, 75 & 100 yd for pistol. One the other side, uncovered, is an international style rotating target set up that I have never seen in use in 15 years. No club house, just range shacks for sign in and targets. Oh, also shoot shotgun to the side of the rifle range, just a field with a couple of manual throwers. Gated facility with combo lock. Now that I'm retired, I see more people at the range during the week than I did on the weekends. Good folks and good facilities.

Old club was $30 a year for regular members $60 for Voting members 1/2 forgiven if you worked at one of the two work days. 2 ranges, one w1th 25 yd indoor and 100 yd, 50, & 25 yard target stands and wooden covered benches. The other range had some FWP money so the public could shoot at the 100/200 yd range for $3 5 days a week. You would not believe the number of whiners that would go shoot up the forest rather than pay $3. Members got a trap range, 125 yd muzzleloaders with covered concreted benches, 300 yd targets and gongs, concrete covered and 1000 yard range with camping area for matches.
Current range is free w 2 wooden benches, 55 gallon burn bbl and 100, 200 & 300 yd stands. I rarely see more than 1 other person when I shoot for 3-4 hours. If I had not moved 150 miles aay I would not have dropped membership. There are three other clubs with in an hour i am considering joining but with free and within 5 miles this is tough to beat.

The range I've been a member of in the past charged IIRC $60 a year but you still had to pay a reduced fee to use the ranges. What it all boiled down to was that using the range 12 times a year was the break-even point. As I can only go when I can arrange transportation (too decrepit to drive), I rarely get out more than five or six times a year.

$50 annually. $60 if your 30 days late.

Cheap price to have a place to shoot. I average 60 times a year or more. Been ourt there as many as 5 times in a week. I even get out once or twice in the brutal winter to get some trigger time and keep from going stir crazy.

Freebie, one of the local farmers has built a nice 150 yard range about a mile from my house. While it's fenced and gated, it isn't locked and for the past 35 years, it's been open to locals.
Covered line (nice in the Arizona summers), one concrete and two wooden benches, target stands at 25, 50 and 100 yards.
The Sheriff's department uses it for their training and the local CCW class instructor uses it for qualifications so every so often (maybe twice a month) it's closed for a couple of hours.

$125 for an outdoor facility in the very crowded suburbs of Philadelphia. 54.7 acres with black powder, high power rifle, small bore rifle and pistol ranges., 3 skeet fields, 3 trap fields, a table trap field, an archery range, a walk through archery field course, air rifle, air pistol and walk through air rifle/pistol course. Really a pretty sweet facility for the area. Down side is very strict target and capacity rules. No holster work, no place to practice shoot and move, etc.

$12 for an outdoor facility in the foothills of the Pocono Mountains. Can do all the stuff I can't do at home. Pits for holster and shoot and move work. No magazine restrictions, etc.. Downside is it is 1.5 hours up a toll road.

$25 per year, covered shooting bench for two at a time shooting on the rifle range. Rifle range has 25, 50,100, 200, 300 Yard. You have to "qualify" your ability to be allowed to shoot at the 200, 300 yard backstops. Soon to be covered pistol range 7, 10, 15 yard. Fully stocked fridge with about $50 worth of quarters in the door, not a cent ever comes up missing. Lay down a tarp and pickup your own brass or dont come back. There is hardly ever any brass on the ground I might add. 2 miles from home. You dont even want to try to go there the week before muzzle loader or shotgun season comes in, or you will stand there all day waiting to shoot.

I am fortunate enough to be able to shoot on my own property. BUT there is a consevation club not far from here that is now $85 a year; belonged to that one but didn't care for the cliche that ran it. I understand there are a couple more clubs to the west of me but have no idea what their fees are. I guess I'm not a club kinda guy.

One problem with the club I did belong to was they had their ideas as to what kind of firearms were ok and which ones were not ok. I really can't abide that thinking considering our gun rights are in constant jeopardy.

$110 to join pro-rated on month you join. Fiscal year is July-June. $50 a year thereafter. If you join in Dec, you pay $30+$60 initiation, etc.. Members get a break on range fees and $5 off the $25 match fees for USPSA/IDPA/ICORE. We also pay less on the skeet/trap range, 25/100 yard line, etc compared to a non-member. Our action range is blessed with about 50-60 volunteer Range officers. We hold USPSA practice every sat 9:30-1:30 rain or shine except large matches where the range is closed to the public. We work on a 9 week rotation for opening that range for practice and the action range has a match of some kind about 48 sundays out of the 52 in a year (24 USPSA, 6 IDPA, 4 ICORE, 6 Cowboy, and other specialty matches as we can get help for). Match directors ask for help from the range officer pool and anyone who wants to help out.. and we reward them with discounted or free matches.

Surprised I didn't see a reply from a member of the Rockingham County Gun Club in North Carolina. It has numerous shotgun and pistol ranges, all out doors. About a thousand members. The rifle range is 200 yds. 20 covered concrete benches and a covered loading area. Dues are $100. a year after a initiation fee (??) Dues $50. a year for seniors, that's me. At my cabin in the mountains of VA I have a 100 yd. range with covered concrete bench and shed behind the shooting bench. That is where I do most of my shooting.:coffee:

I belong to 2 in the local area. The Hartland Conservationists which has a couple trap fields and an outdoor range to 200 yds with backstops at 25,50,75,and 100 yds. They also have an indoor 30' range. Dues are $35. annual + you have to sell 5 $5.00 raffle tickets 4 times a year, total of $135.
I also belong to the Lockport Conservation Club which has a heated indoor 50' range which is card accessible at any time. I shoot there in the winter time. Just slide your card, enter and turn on the furnace. The cost for that is $85.00 annual

North End in New Tripoli PA, I'm a life member so I'm not sure.

Vly and I belong to Marbletown Sportsmen's Club (www.marbletownsportsmensclub.com). Our current annual dues are $75.00 per year with a $50.00 initiation fee for new members and a 12 hour work requirement/yr. for all but Junior (5 hrs./yr.) and Honorary* members (exempt). Those not meeting the work requirement are assessed $10/hr. not worked.

We have 25-, 50- and 100 yd. ranges and a covered firing line. We also sponsor 4 or more .22 Bench Rest shoots (open to all .22 rimfire rifles), 1 turkey shoot, and 2 BP shoots per yr. You can also shoot informal trap if you bring your own launcher.

$75/year (family)...just mailed out my 2010 dues today. Club owns the land outright (prior to buying our own, we lost two ranges that we'd put a lot of work into when they were sold out from under us by the lessors). 8-position 25-yard pistol (covered concrete firing line) with single-position berms at 50, 75, and 100. Covered rifle line with (3) shooting benches on concrete pad with berms at 50, 100, 200, and 300 meters. Uncovered rifle line (gravel, no benches) will accomodate another 6-8 shooters.
