Lubing a Mould

New to this casting buisness so I wonder if someone can explain what needs lubed and what lube is recommended on a RCBS 2 cavity mould ? I thought I read the instructions pretty thoroughly and saw no where about lubing it . Also, how often should you lube and what are the reasons for lubing the mold other than to reduce the wear on moving parts ?

Also , how tight should the spure plate be ?

A spru plate does not have to be tight at all.
It does have to fit flatly against the mold and flop around.
Usually a spring washer holds a little tension against the plate.
Moving parts should be lubed for ease of operation and wear reduction.
Allow no lube in the cavity or where it can migrate into the cavity. It will wrinkle up your boolits like prunes.

Oops, I forgot the "What lube" I use whatever is not likely to spread that I have. A lot of folks hereswear by the bullplate lube. A link to the bullshop is at the bottom of the page.

I apply anti-sieze to all screw threads and the bottom of the sprue plate, prior to casting.

A little bullplate on the bottom of the spur plate cutter and the lining pins does wonders.

Just a touch of beeswax every couple of hundred bullets while casting on the sprue plate screw/bolt wile casting seems to work really nice for me./beagle
