I've been shooting a Marlin 94 CB in silhoutte matches using a past group buy 100 gr bullet with 4 gr Unique. It is OK, but I'm looking for a little more accuracy and more whack on the 100 meter rams. I'm going to sign up for the NOE 32 - 120 gr buy. and I have a rcbs 90gr also. I thought about a little slower powder for rifle loads, maybe AA# 7. I noticed that the Lyman book maxes out at about 20,000psi which seems kind of low, but I'm a little leery about over loading it. Any advice out there?

I like the old Ideal 3118, now catalogued by Lyman as their 311008. Get hold of the old Skeeter Skelton artilcle in Shooting Times about the time the .32 Mag came out. The loads he developed were way too hot for the little Ruger Single Six he was using but should be just right for your rifle.

I've custom built an original Winchester Low-wall in the caliber as well as buying both the S&W K-.32 Mag and the Ruger Buckeye Special (Blackhawk) convertible .32-20 and .32 Mag. I sure wish I still had any one or all of them! :groner:

You might also want to look at the Lyman 311316 GC. It's about 115 grains, and shoots pretty well in most guns.

I'm working with a 327 Magnum revolver and working up "hotter" 32 Magnum loads, as the 327 revolver is rated to handle 46,000+ pressures and 327 cases are in short supply. I'm using the 311316 and getting better accuracy the higher pressures I develop. I'm also using the 311316 in the 327 and it is more accurate at high pressure, no leading with the 327 at a little over 1400 FPS. I'm still going up, so I have only touched the surface of the 32 magnum and the 327. All that to say that I think the 311316 is a great bullet for what you have in mind.
I size to .313 for both.

AA #7 is my favorite powder for the .32 H&R. With 100 grain bullets I have gotten very good results with 6.5 grains for right at 1100 fps from a 6" S&W Model 16.

Good info guys, I think a little more speed might be in order. Seems like the 20" bbl ought to get another 300fps or so more than a pistol. I'll see if I can find some #7 to try. I wish I had one of those S&W 16s to go with the Marlin. Any more ideas are more than welcome.

Good advice on the 3118/311008. I had one hollowpointed and it was a shooter in my Single Six. I've moved up to a Buckeye now and it shoots it very well too.

With a Buckeye, a .30 Carbine Ruger and an M1 Carbine, I go through a lot of the 311008HPs./beagle

If you want to wake up your 32 H&R Magnum, use Lil Gun.

I use a 311008 with 5.2gr of 540ms (old obsolete powder which I believe is close to HS-6) and the same bullet with 4.0gr of Unique with great results out of my Single Six Bisley & my 1894CB, the 540ms load is starting to show some pressure signs in the Ruger but shoots like a lazer beam.

I was able to pick up three pounds of AA#7 cheap this summer and a RBCS 32-098-swc that I'm just starting to play with.

I started loading .32 S&W Longs before I could find .32 Mag brass with 100gr boolits & 3.0gr of SR-7625, I shot this out of both of my guns with good results and low muzzle blast. Killed quit a few squirrels with this load and still do.

+1 on Lil'Gun for the 32 Magnum.
Wish I had a 311316 mold, but I'm working on it.

4227 works well with the 3118. I need to get it up fairly hot before it starts to group well in my Merrill silhouette pistol. Probably 1100-1200. Don't recall the charge, and I'm away from my loading bench. It is less than 10 grains.

I'm using the 314-120 from the group buy that Wilbird ran a few years ago; in a 6 1/2" Ruger SSM. It is a fairly close copy of the 311008, and weighs 122 grains in my alloy, mostly wheelweights. I am loading them in Starline brass over a fairly stiff charge of Lilgun. I don't have any signs of excessive pressure, in fact it seems that the hotter the load the better the gun like it.

I've just chrono'd some loads using 2.7gr to 3.0gr of AA #2 and the 311008.
Came in a little lower that I thought so I am going to crank it up a bit.

I need to chrono several of my loads also. I was using a big round bale of hay as a backstop in my backyard, and ended up feeding it to my daughters horse when the grass got thin this fall. This year we are using small bales; now I have to make an actual bullet trap.

Ditto on AA#7, also try 800X. Any of the standard magnum pistol powders will be good to try at the 32 H&R standard top end loads and up thru 327 Fed. loads.
Loud though!

Here is a screen shot of some of the loads I have used in my Ruger Blackhawk and single-six.
