I am using a lee .358 158gr round nose flat point mold. I am using Linotype for some magnum loads. They are 155.5 gr with linotype. Do I load them as I would a 158gr bullet or a 155gr bullet?

Thanks

Either way will be fine because you are going to start UNDER the recommended max powder charge anyway......right?

Calhunter, If you cast 1000 boolits and weighed them I'd bet the variation would exceed the difference between 155.5 and 158 gr. Magnums cast from linotype? Be sure your bullets are sized to throat size, (I'm assuming a revolver) gaschecked, and using good lube. Anything less is a prescription for leading.

Cathunter Yeah what they said. Generaly ( I hate that word) Where people get in trouble, is by substituting similar bullet wieghts, but using a bullet with a different profile, such as using spire-point data for a round nose, or along nosed bullet data for a wad-cutter. Bearing surface comes into play, so pick the closest wieght and profile, then start low and work your way up. DM

I use that bullet for pins in my 686, charged with HS6. I cast mine out of wheel weights+2% Tin, air cooled, and have no leading. Linotype is much harder than you usually need and getting harder to find. Cut it at least 50/50. My two cents.:castmine:

The data I am using is Lyman data and the bullet profile is pretty much the same. The data calls for Linotype. I usually use a 50/50 alloy Lino/Lead watercooled and have had no problems.
