This is I think, the first year that Ne. has had a grant supported deer donation deal for those who wish to donate to the homless shelters. I donated my buck (best one in the last few years). Was told that at that point (half way thru rifle season) over 10,000 lbs of processed venison had been donated. There seems to have been a heavy kill this year. When I dropped mine off, there were 5 other deer being dropped off at the same time. Good program, helps the hungry, and promotes a positive image for hunters in the PETA anti gun, anti hunting meantality.

Good on you!:-) I may be mistaken, but I think PA. has a program where ANY game taken can be donated.

My wife works in the county Soil and Water office. They and their wildlife specialist are working with an organization that is accepting donated deer and distributing it to the hungry. They have several meat processors that are doing the processing for free. They've had 45 deer donated so far.

Texas has a similar program also.

In Texas if you donate a deer you also have to pay to get it processed. This Halted my wanting to give to the "Hunter's for the Hungry" program. I just give it to local folks if they ask.

The Texas Prison system has a cooler set up in Wheeler for donating deer for their use and there is no cost to you for the effort. We will be giving them some over the holidays, as we really need to reduce our herd. The local processing plant wants $50 for processing to donate to a food program, and we will probably have 20 or so to find a home for. They have extended the season this time for taking does or spikes. We have lots of MLD antlerless tags. This year they are requiring a jaw saved from each one, trimmed of most meat, besides a field dressed weight.
