What is your favorite 41 Magnum load? It can be BP or smokeless and of course the projectile must be lead.

12.0 old blue dot and virtually any 210-220gr cast bullet, my favorite being nei's 220.411, a nice chunk of lead w/broad meplat and driving band. never owned a 41(about 6 or 7, from memory) that this didn't shoot well in. pretty disappointed that new blue dot is not recommended in 41, still don't quite get it.

I've been using 7.0gr 700X with an RCBS 210gr SW cast from WW+2% tin. I run a lot of it through my 6" M57, as the recoil is light and the accuracy is high. The velocity is 1050fps. I used 700X 'cause I have so much from trapshooting.
Recently, I had Buckshot HP one of my RCBS molds, and have found some VERY interesting results. In my M58(4") the accuracy is aw-sum, with several different loads. My M57 had to be sent back to S&W, and has been there for almost a year, so I'm anxious to see what it'll do with the new bullet.
The M58 with 10.5gr Herco, for instance, tries to put them all in one hole at 25yds. The boolits are cast of WW+2%tin, so they'll be soft enough to expand well, the testing thereof which is the next project. I use Lar's BAC lube, and size to .413". The primers are Federal #150 or CCI #300, which gives me a velocity of 1175fps from the 4" tube.
Have fun,
Gene

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I just bought a .41 magnum (my first). How about your favorite deer load for the .41? My apologies to the author of the thread.

I just got a 6-banger of the 220gr Keith GB and it is sickeningly accurate on top of 8 grains of Unique. I don't doubt it'll drop a deer like a wet sack of ****, too.

a 200 gr wad cutter and 8 grs unique is accurate enough.
or the lyman 210 g/c over 13 grs sr-4756.
plinking is the lyman sans g/c and 4-5 grs titegroup.

No problem Exile. This series of topics is designed to get people sharing loads which will help those that are always looking / asking.

220 gr. LSWC (Lyman 410459)
10.0 gr. Unique

Has some authority but not brutal by any means. Accurate too.
Used to shoot Blue Dot but got away from it in favor of this load.

Haven't tried Win. 231 in the mag, but sure like it in the special. See report here:

I asked this on another thread; am I the only fool still shooting the .41AE? The mention of that cartridge usually is followd by a long silence. I would have guessed the .41 fans would like a .41 autoloader too. Guess not, since it's deader than the .256 Win Mag.(I like that one too).

Lyman #410032 (212 grain SWC) atop 8.0 grains of Herco. These run about 950 FPS, and duplicate the lead-bullet "police load" from the caliber's origins. A very useful and easily shootable load, an all-day recipe for sure.

I have a Lee 240 grain SWC that needs more R&D, it should make a good hunting load if accuracy can be had. It shot well from the Blackhawk, but I haven't tried it in the 657 yet.

As an aside, the 657 went along this year into Condor Country with the all-copper 180 grain Barnes bullets in place. That whole idea was like fingernails on a chalkboard, but it's better than not hunting. Them copper critters REALLY shot well, too.

Have 2 molds, Lyman 41026 plain base 200 gr full wad cutter, 5 grs Bullseye nice comfortable plinking load in my 6 in. Ruger Blackhawk.
Lyman 410610 semi wadcutter gas checked hollow pointed also casts 200 gr. 10 gr. Unique
Makes a fair handful but shoots well and the hollow point in a fairly soft bullet does the job.

Glynn41,

Do you have any idea what kind of velocity you get with those loads of 800X? What is most accurate in your gun? I'm shooting a Saeco mould #410 220gr FPPB boolit that drops at 231gr w/ straight wheel weights. I love the mould. I get very nice boolits and very consistent weights (most within +or-.5gr). I'm looking for a 1000fps load for my 6" M57.

Normally 800x gives good accuracy and for a while it was all I used in my .41s 1 powder for everything

RedHawk 5.5" .41 12- grs 225gr 410459 was 1320-1330 accurate-- bullets are often in the same hole at 25-30 yards full power load in my gun
10 gr worked with an 280 gr SSK TC boolit 1120 DWA .41 Mag 6" this DWA is sloooow
7gr with the same boolit was 780 in a 3" 657, 840+ in a 4" 57
255 lwngc 4.5" blackhawk 9.5 gr 910 fps
I have some more but are in a different note book which I can not put my hand on right now--

Here are some Jbullet loads just for comparsion
14.5-15 gr in the DWA1505 with 170 (23 gr of 2400 was 1480 in the same gun)
14 gr with remington 200gr hp very accurate never got around to clocking it
12 gr with 210 XTP 1280 in the DWA again very accurate
Remember this was in my various .41 that are mostly gone now
heat does not seem to bother do not know of extreme cold
