Would these powders have applications in cast boolit loads?? I know where 8 lbs of each is for 75.00 each. I am a fan of Unique!!! Dont want to waste money on these though if they are not good for cast. The alliant website only list shotgun data.
Alliant 20/28 is in the burn rate area of Unique and is to be "extremely" clean burning according to Alliant Powder web page. I have not used any of it but if I ran into 8lbs of it I would buy it and work up loads starting 10% less than the unique and go from there.
Alliant 410 has promise as it is a bit slower than 2400 at least in reloading for a Ruger Blackhawk 45 colt. When I used it I remember it did not ignite as easily as 2400 though and needs a good firm crimp. I haven't spoke with a rep from Alliant about 410 use in handguns, but it probably wouldn't hurt I suppose. Although I do remember reading a thread on some forum where a call to Alliant yielded that 410 is not suitiable for handguns due to its possibility of pressure changes/spikes. What that means I do not know as their Blue dot is pissy at top end loads too, but for my use it worked fine as a substitute for 2400.
