I just talked to a major bullet manufactor tech line

I have some new and old sniper rifles

I saw a lot of loads in the Cast Bullets Handbook for 700x
You would need to be careful not to double charge.

The gentleman told me I will permantely destory the accuracy. of my fine Sniper rifles
if I shoot lead.

I think that Harry Pope and a few hundred current CB Benchrest shooters might not think he knows what he is talking about.

Clean the copper fouling out and shoot to your heart's content. You'll not ruin them with cast./beagle

And this from a major bullet manufactor tech line?
Goddlemity - I might expect this kind of claptrap from some bozo in a Podunk sporting goods store but I'm stunned that any of the bullet manufacturers would settle for technical representatives who were that ignorant.

Shooting lead in my rifles runined me from j-bullets. If its not one of my long range target rifles or one of my AR15's I shoot lead in them.

I have shot lead in my 223 and 6.8 SPC AR-15's though and than went back to J-bullets with out a problem.

+1 to what Felix said.

Yup, he's an idiot.

Maybe.

Uninformed for sure. The first thing he is though, is a tech for a major bullet manufacturer. He sells a pricey product. Bullet manufacturers hate those who cast accurate, cheap cast boolits.

What was his reasoning for the remark?

A guy that I worked with asked me if I had ever fired a sniper rifle. I wasn't sure how to answer so I said that the 30-06 used to be a snipe rifle and I did snipe deer with one so I guess I qualified.

Gee Whiz Batman I cast 200 .358 lymans today. Next week they'll get lubed and gas checked and will weigh in at around 205 gr. The local guns are us store had one box of name brand jwords for over fifty bucks for a hundred and those were not premium bullets by any stretch of the imagination. Now why on earth would a jword manufacturer try to spread the idea that lead was harder and more abrasive than copper or gilding metal?

Anybody here think that the firearms of a hundred and fifty years ago had better steel in their barrels to resist the damaging effects of lead boolits?:groner:

as others have said-i bet he then tried to sell you some j-words.

We are under constant attack one way or another. There's people who hate us because who and what we are, and there's people who know how to make a good living off that fact. It's a lucrative industry, just like global warming. As a shooter and dirt bike rider in California I can tell you the ONLY hope we have is to be organized. The enemy is. They're counting on you to just complain and not join groups like the NRA. In my opinion the lead ban is the result of the Heller decision, it's their way of opening a new front after getting their a#$%^ kicked in the Supreme Court.

We were told in the Army, Sniper is a profession, not a firearm.

A good sniper, and use any rifle.

Or so they said at sniper school, many moons ago

Wow

I love all of your honest feelings about this. :bigsmyl2:

The gentleman is FOS. ... felix

So here is some more he said

Cant use 700x with jacketed ( To fast)

Must use a gas check with lead to build presser and help scrape the bore of lead

A primer alone would probably push a lead bullet out the bore (cant remember if that was for both 223 or 308)

YOU try it and YOU decide for YOURSELF. I suffer from an inability to properly direct my bullet to the intended target (I miss a lot) myself. Whoever made that comment to you is out of touch with reality. Lead is LESS abrasive than copper. Think about it. I would ignore that advice. I shoot both. Lead is a LOT less expensive to shoot.

I agree with Felix. Many, many years ago, I remember when ammo manufacturers would not sell new unfired cases to reloaders. So reloaders bought factory ammo and reloaded it. Then the ammo manufacturers realized how large the reloading market was. Result? Now we can buy all kinds of new unfired brass. I think, with the exorbitant price on j-bullets, brass, ammo etc., the ammo manufacturers are going to lose a lot of sales as more reloaders turn to CBs and PPCB (which give jacket performance).

Best regards,

CJR

I can tell you absolutely! NO single primer will push a .30 caliber cast lead boolit out of a normal barrel length .30 caliber rifle!

Don't ask me how I know.

Don't ask me how I know.:bigsmyl2:

Actually, sometimes a primer won't even dislodge the bullet from the case neck!

I know it wont push a 45 out of a 7 " barrel.
try 13 gr of red dot with 150/170 gr bullet in any military rifle.I shoot a 1903 with lees 312-160TL and it does not lead.gives 1' groups at 100 yds.
any one use AA2025 in garand.I got the rep telling me not to use light loads.
any rep that said lead is bad should find another trade.

Wow...just, wow. That is some kinda' all encompassing DA statement for a bullet supplier with any character to say and I agree with Felixs' assessment.
