Just bought a security six that had alot of lead buildup. I have it a good chore-boy enema and got most of it out. What I did notice is that the cylinder walls had grooves, like the brass carved a relief to the case length. I can feed 357 brass in just fine but a bit worried about that there might be pressure issues. I took a copper bore brush, pu tit on my drill and brushed the hell out of each one but should I send it in to Ruger for service?

Are the grooves visible on a fired case? Is case extraction difficult? If the answer is "yes" to either one or both of my questions, then send it back to Ruger.

No and no. But only tried on 38 brass, not 357 yet.

Do you suspect that these grooves are a factor for all the lead build up?

They certainly give the lead something to grip to. Never seen them on revolvers but this one is pushing 30 years old now.

I'm with Shiolh on this one, a lot of 38s fired in it.

Shoot some factory 357 in it, if you get hard extraction and or rings in the brass at the groove location then a cylinder replacement is in order but Ruger may not have spare cylinders as they have not made the Sec. 6 for many years, I would call first.

You can always shoot mid vol. 357 or 38 sp. if you don't want to replace the cylinder.
