I have an NEF Handi Rifle frame that I bought with a 223 barrel on it, I sold that barrel and am sending it in to get a 243 24" bull barrel and a 45-70 32" barrel, that is the back ground of the rifle. I bought a 24" 50 caliber huntsman barrel very cheap and have it shooting great with 100 grains of 777 and a 240 grain sabot.

My question is if I get a mold it needs to be .501 size?
And I have to use pure lead for casting bullets?
And what grain would be good to go with?
I hunt with it and like a hollow point jacketed bullet but lead would mushroom good anyways so what style of bullet?
And do you have to lube pure lead bullets?

Any thoughts on this?
thanks

Patched Round Ball is normally a .490 pure lead ball.
The LEE REAL in .50 is also a great shooter out of a huntsman.
I would suggest getting the LEE .490/.50REAL combo mould.
Another very good bullet is the LEE 360gr .50 Minnie Ball.

To really test the care & feeding of yourgun though, you could order a "Sample Pack" of cast boolits from Bill Davis at Blackjackhill.com, then buy the mould of what shoots best.

As for powder? For target, 50gr +/- whatever is most accurate.
For Hunting 80 to 100gr 3F 777 or real BP. Much more than that over pure lead and you are just wasting powder. (IMO)
