Here's my situation. I have just been given an RCBS 8mm mold for a 170 grain bullet. The only powders I have are 4759, Varget, and 3031. What are the minimum and maximum charges with each of these powders that I could use with this bullet?

Straight from the RCBS Cast Bullet Manual #1.
Mauser 98
24" bbl.
1-9 1/2" twist
Federal cases
CCI 200 primer
21.0 SR4759 1703 fps
23.0 SR4759 1850 fps

That's the only powder listed that you have.

This is with the group buy mold, but is close enough for planning purposes.

18-5 22.5 grains of 4759 8x57 in more than one version of 98 (one very shiny bored 98 shoots patterns with all loads). 175 grain RNFP GC GB mold and 21.5 grains of 4759 = 1685 fps measured.

Groups got smaller and smaller from 18.5 - 21.5 grains, 22.5 looked like buckshot pattern . . . . VERY loose pattern at that.
YMMV.

What 8MM is it? Is it a 8x57mm or is it a 8mm/378 Weatherby or one of the other 100 or so 8mm cartriges. Same old story, people giving you load data for the cart. that they think you are asking about.
