I shoot mainly handguns. I do have a couple of very accurate rifles, but just don't use them that much.

I took my Rem 788 in .243 and my Dan Wesson in .41 out to the range. About a year and a half ago, I messed around with cast in the .243 and had a 245496 and a 245498 mould. At 25 yards, two would go in the same hole and the third would land about 1 inch outside. Not sure what that means. The cruddy part is the label came off of the box and I have no idea of the load/ If I had to guess, it would probably be Carpetman's load. The 498 shot about a 5 inch group at 100. Switched to full power j*****ed to dial in for deer season. Now I remember why I switched to pistols. Guess I should stick to the powder puff loads.

The Dan did well as always. I read an article in the IHMSA news about using pure lead for deer loads. Based on the expansion testing I did last year, I think I will stick with them. Loaded up about 10 and shot to check zero. A little lower than the RCBS 215, but a couple of clicks up and it is hitting about 3 inch high at 25. As for leading, Just a light grey wash. Not sure if that is a function of the lube, gas check, good fit or what. Should be fine for no more than I will shoot if I even get out to the woods this deer season.

Of course, the sevens are in pistols also. XP100 and TC in 7TCU. Used to have an encore in a 10" 7br.

He's a Pistolero! Can't hold that against him. Wild Bill Hickok was one also. Hopefully he doesn't play poker also:kidding:

Sorta like anti-matter. I would say the same thing about rifles as Mr. Quigley said about pistols. Even the light calibers beat me up more than I like. I haven't had much problems with pistols beating me up. Maybe I need to take testosterone shots or something.

Nope...you just need a 13 pound rifle.

Nope, he just needs a soft recoil pad on that 788. I have one too, in .223, and was surprised at the percieved recoil from that gun. It wasn't enough to hurt, but certainly more than I expected. (I have no problem with full power -06, 7mm mag, or 35 Whelen loads). That cheap hard buttpad doesn't help at all. I put one of those slip on Pachmeyer pads for $8, since I have long arms anyway, and found it much more enjoyable for long shooting sessions. One of those should turn that .243 into a sweet shooter.

Edit: didn't mean to imply that you're wrong about the 13 lb rifle; I've got one myself in 6mm Rem AI that just gently nudges my shoulder (while shouting loudly at the other end).

The Simms Limbsaver beats testosterone shots any day!!!

LOL!!

I have one on a 99 Savage in .243 ..... not that the .243 actually kicks but I needed a rubber pad to stop the gun from slipping on the butt ....... and for three or five bucks more ..... why not a Simms???

I have Simms pads on some other guns as well ....... two are on 7mm Rem maggies.

I will uneqiuvically state that to date, I have seen no other pad perform as well as the Simms.
