Went to the gun show in Raleigh, NC today and primers were to be had. Prices ranged $32-$45/1000 with the most common price of $40. Plenty of bullets and brass to be had.

One vendor I've dealt with for the past 10 years said if I wanted 5000 large pistol primers, I'd have to pay $40/1000. When I balked, his wife told me about another vendor who had them for less. Guess their not worried about getting rid of inventory.

Hopefully things are coming around.

Oh yeah, went to the fairground flea market by the gun show and bought 20lbs of linotype for $10. Good day!

I paid $43.00 and change, includes tax, for a thousand large pistol magnum at the local sports store last week. First I have seen in a year. Glad to get them. Took them home and put them along side another brick of large pistol that was priced at $10.00. Made me feel like a fool. But I have some now. Ain't it funny how that supply and demand thingy works?
I figure that when I make ammo with components I have on hand it is already paid for and doesn't hurt as much. Rationalising is a way of life for me.

The rational is that you paid $53.00 for 2000 primers which is $26.50 per 1000.
Not a bad price after all.

Shelves full of primers probably will still be a long time coming. Most people don't want to get caught low on primers ever again. There still a lot of reloaders with an appetite to store up a good supply when it becomes available.

I was glad to see SOME varieties of primers showing up in Raleigh. Lots of squirrels here do not have enough nuts at this point, having come late to understanding.

Some of us advanced nutters still need a few more too ! BvT

From time to time I see primers in strips available. I am still in the dark ages and hand place each primer in the press to set it. It seems like it would be a real pain to have to remove each primer from the strip before it can be placed in the cup, 1000's of extra moves.
Would it be worth buying a hand primer and going through the extra priming step, or is it not as big a deal as I think to pull each primer from the strip?
Thanks

The strip primers were likely for the RCBS APS priming tool.

Sportsman Warehouse in Medford, Oregon last month. First visit there was ONE carton of 1k of LR for $30. I bought it. Two weeks later stopped by again and there was ONE carton of 1K of SP so I bought that for $30. Did an inventory and found I have about 15,000 primers on hand. Didn't think I had that many but some go back a long ways, Remington 1 1/2 in wooden trays.

Thats probably what they are. I have never used them and assume that it would be way too much bother to pull them out of the strips, one at a time to place in the press.
