I use it and like it a great deal, but I'm not sure it's still being made. After reading the thread about Emmert's Lube in the Boolit Lube section, I wonder whether a variant of it could also work as a patch lube?

You are correct MSM is no longer. The way I understod it the two partners desided to break up but one of them is still in bussiness. Seemed like a good guy to deal with. I shot him an email and he told me they split up. I delt with him only one time but got prompt service with no problems. I used to deal with them allot and never understood why they didn't get a web site but you can reach him here at cainsoutdoor.com

I almost ran out, could not find more. So I started to dabble a bit with a recipe. I came up with a pretty fair replacement.

50/50 by volume deer tallow and coconut oil will get you real close. It just does not have the cetyl alcohol/soap smell. I am still dabblin with it but so far I am seeing success.

I posted my recipe on the lube recipe area:

Have fun cookin :bigsmyl2:

357max., Would the lube work with 50% Crisco instead of deer tallow?

I have not tried that. I would guess that it would come out quite a bit softer, but would likely serve the purpose until hot weather arrived. Rendered deer tallow is almost but not quite a beeswax type consistency and sorta brittle all by itself.

Take a swing and see. [smilie=2:

I have a batch that is 60% tallow and 40% coconut oil that is really really close to youngs in texture/stiffness but I have not shot any yet.
