The cleaning guy left me about 11lbs of linotype on my desk last night,
(he works pt at a metal recycling plant good friend to have)
What is a good ratio of linotype to WW.
I cast only .30 150gr in a Lee mold now.
Looking to cast 45-70, 32ws and 6.5 in the future.

I have not done the math or given it any serious thought, but if I had a bunch of WW and some lino and wanted to use the lino to sweeten and harden the WW a mite, I would think in the area of a 4 to 1 (ww to lino) mix. That should improve the casting qualities a little and boost the hardness so you could push the bullets 2.2K fps or so without any problems.

Depending on the barrel, bullet and lube, WW tends to roll snake eyes when the velocity gets to the 1.8 to 2 K fps area. The above mix should buy you a couple of hundred more fps.

Of course, you can always heat treat those WW bullets and get the extra hardness/speed without the lino.

As with all things relating to cast bullet, you will never know until you try it. If it does what you want fine, if not then jack with the ratio until it does. This is a hands on shooting sport. Just so much can be learned by reading.

Corvette8n,

A mix of 3 WW to 1 Linotype will give you about:
Tin - 1.4
Antimony - 6.0
Lead - 92.6

Which should work well!

I use a "soft" air cooled mix of 9 parts ww to 1 part lino in a few toys to around 2k with no issues and with good luck on checked boolits.

Corvette, the mix that Garandsrus provided to you will produce a Bhn of 13.329.
Enjoy.

I'd save it until I NEEDED it. Try the straight WW or heat treated WW first. You may be fine just as things are. Lino is scarce and expensive. It might be better used for high speed uses or to sweeten and poor batch that you can't make use of.

I read that a great alloy is 20# of range lead : 1# lino.
