I was looking at a rifle and it had a realist 3x9 scope with fine reticle. I have looked and couldn't find much info. Has anyone owned or seen one?

They were quite common in my area in the 70's. I think they were a house brand- Western Auto, Sears, Mont. Wards, maybe JC Penney. Made in Japan, run of the mill inexpensive scope.

I think that was Western Auto's in house brand. Like Bret says, ordinary low bucks Jap
scope. Not usually particularly bad or good.

Hey Nap!!
If you don`t want iit I do! A friend of mine was in a rather elite [Long Range Radio something or other]Marine outfit in Nam way back in the mid-late 60s. He had one on a Remington I believe he said. It was a cammed scope and VERY good according to him. He than the Unertl!

I found the Realist scopes in a copy of Old Rifle Scopes. They were imported from '65-'74 but doesn't state where from. They also worked with Leatherwood and introduced the ATR.

My Shooters Bible 1971-74 has 3 pages of Realist Scopes that alone tells you they were a quality scope. Revelation was house brand for Western Auto guns and scopes. In my 1974 Shooters Bible Leupold 3x9 scope was $104 Realist 3x9 scope was $103, not just another cheap Japanese scope.

Here's the quote from Nick Stroebel's book,"Old Rifle Scopes","Starting in 1965, Realist Inc., Menomomie Wis., imported a quality line of hunting telescopic sights. All feature constantly centered reticles, nitrogen-filled alloy tubes, and the choice of crosswire, post and crosswire or dot reticles. Sun shades were available for $6.95 extra. In 1968, after reaching an agreement with its designer, Jim Leatherwood, Realist introduced the first American-made ART(Auto Ranging Telescope). Realist scopes are last cataloged in the 1974 Gun Digest."
