Thank you, Mike!..And the same back at ya brother!

My all time favorite rifle cartridge is also the tried and true .30/06! Ya just can't beat it.

Revolver would have to be .44 magnum. Seems there's nothing it can't do while still being in a moderate size package for carry.

Of course, I would be lost without a good .22 rifle and pistol.

Thanks to all my brother veterans.

30-06, .223, .22-250, .257 Roberts for J bullets, 30-30 and .45-70 for cast in rifles.

I've been a .41 Magnum user and fan for over 30 years. I believe it works better than the .44 Magnum with reduced (900 fps) loads. I haven't shot any J bullets out of it since right after I bought it. I also have a Taurus Titanium Tracker in .41 that's vicious to shoot with full power loads, but becomes a real pussycat with 900 fps SWC boolits. I also like the .32 H&R Magnum, but I believe it's under loaded. I've never been able to find anyone who will tell me why, in a strong, well made revolver like a Smith, this cartridge can't be loaded above the 21,000 psi that's SAAMI standard for it. I'd think it's capable of far more.

.22 rimfire, for sure, in handgun and rifle. I have a couple of M-48 S&W .22 Magnums, one of which has a .22 LR cylinder. It shoots better using LR cartridges. I also have a M-41 S&W semi-auto. Very accurate.

12 ga for serious business (varmints of either the two- or four-legged variety) and 20 ga for sport.

Regards,

Stew

.45 acp (1911A1) and 30-06 (03/03A3). Those two will handle most everything.

For diversion, 32 Win Spl, 222 Rem, .38/.357, 22 RF, 45 Colt, .44 Spl/Mag.

All, of course, with boolits.

I am partial to most military guns. I have a somewhat amature collection, not collecting for value but I find military guns most interesting. I guess If I had to pick though I would go with 30.06 and the 45acp.

I've always been partial to the 8 inch and 16 inch guns but wouldn't turn down some good tac air. Nowadays the .22 and .44 handguns get the most use followed by the .308.

HollandNut,

No, 0988 is the Mk13 (Mods) single-arm GMLS (The One-Armed Bandit, as it was called). "Tartar" (old school) or Standard MR (current). But there are no more launchers of the types we used to have from the late 50s through the 90s. All the Mk 10s (Terrier/Standard ER), Mk 11 (The Rain Forest. Leaked hydraulic oil like a sieve.) and 13 (Tartar/ Standard MR) are long gone. All there is now is vertical launch from apparently boxed missiles installed in the deck. I'd love to see the workings of the new stuff, but being schooled on the Mk13 was probably the best thing (after my wife) that ever happened to me. It was an incredible piece of machinery, the likes of which I still haven't seen, even after working for NASAs Jet Propulsion Lab and the world's largest semiconductor manufacturer. I wouldn't be where I am without that background. For those who don't ever think about where their defense dollars go, my training 40 years ago is still paying dividends in the civilian world today. I'm a productive (and well respected, within my vocation) member of society because of that training. I'm sure there are many others here who can say the same thing. I kind of feel sorry for the guys today who deal with the missiles in boxes. They don't get to learn about all the fantastic machinery we did.

BTW, what are your code #s?

Regards,

Stew

Stew , was never on a One Armed Bandit ship !!! Knew a bunch a those guys tho ..

Was on a MK 10 ship ( Yarnell DLG/CG17 ) a dubble ender .. Them guys were doing PM's once at sea , and were extending the dud jets , and one of the rams just kept on going ..

Was a 0000 on a MK42 5"54

0871 is 3"50 , automatically got that NEC after a year I think

0812 is small arms instructor

0877 is MK45 5"54 LWGM

9525 is ah um PM sent on it ..

Had a chance to go to VLS school when I made chief , Navy's plan was to have a Gun chief and Missle Chief that were coded , and a Senior coded in both .. But being a regulation Gunners Mate , just couldnt do it , and made Senior anyways ..

The 7-08 and .30-06 are my favorites. I have a couple of each. As far as handguns go, gotta be the .45 acp or .44 mag depending on the respective usage.

Fav caliber is 45-70

The 30-06 is boring, keep hitting dimes at 200 yards, quarters at 300 yards.

The 45-70 is always fun and exciting, someday Ill settle on one load. Right now Im just having way to much fun shootin them all.
