Open to some suggestions on looking for another boolit mold for my 45 Bisley. I am about ready to give up on the RCBS 270 SAA in this gun. Just shot some boolits lubed as cast ( .454 ) with no improvement in accuracy. Tried Unique, Power Pistol and 296. Could not get my hands on any HS6. I would prefer no gas check on this boolit. Besides ordering a mold from Veral what are any suggestions to try? I would like to go no lower than 250gr. and have no problem going up to a 300gr. The only other loads I have put through this gun are some Winchester Cowboy Action loads. They shot really well in this Bisley. Need not duplicate the velocity as I needed some brass to start working up a cast boolit load and just get used to shooting this gun. It is an older Ruger that I got from my wife's uncle at a bargain. It has the over sized cylinder throats ( .4545 - .455 ) so it would have to cast larger than .452. Would it be worth having another cylinder fitted to this gun to shoot boolits sized .452?

It's not a wide meplat boolit, but I was impressed with how my old Ideal 454190 shot in my nephews BH. It's a common enough mould, but I would suggest trying to find an older one to up your chances of getting a "fat" one. I believe mine casts .455", and weighs around 260 grains. Good luck.

Try neck sizing the brass for better chamber alignment. Make the boolits hard, 22 to 28 BHN.
The Keith boolit is worse in over size throats, try the Lee 300 gr RNFP or an LBT design.

44Man, The LEE cast at .452 or will it cast larger? If it is .452, will it still be okay in an oversized throat? In the LBT design would you suggest a LFN in the 300gr range? Thanks for the help guy's.

I have had very good results with the RCBS 45-255 SWC in Redhawk, Blackhawks and Win 94 trapper. It cast about 455 & 265 grains from wheel weight alloy.

Along with the molds mentioned, the RCBS 45-300-SWC casts large enough, but it is a GC design.
Bought an RCBS 45-300-FN off eBay, should be about .458-.459". Turned out to cast small at .455-.456. Sized it to .4525" for my Blackhawk with some Win. 296 and it really ahoots. Just started shooting the NOE 454424. So far with 9/ Unique, 2" @ 25 yards, iron sights.

:coffeecom I believe the best satisfaction is to be had with the older Lyman #454190 and #454424 moulds as they cast a bit "Fatter" than the newer ones i.e. .454-.455"
and about 260 grs. using a 1-16 alloy or wheel weights.

Don't over look the Saeco #955 a 255RFPB, I have 2 4 cavs, both cast at about 260gr and .455-.456Ø.
I shoot this boolit in 4 lever guns(Marlins and Rossies) and 10 SA pistols(Rugers and Ubertis) and 1 S&W 625-2.

I had to edit my post, said 310 gr but the Lee is 300.
Mine casts large enough, I was lucky but I did have to send other molds back that made under size boolits. I have had to lap a few too.
I will never understand why mold makers don't make what shooters need to start with. Custom makers are the only ones to trust.
Even the better boolit makers list various sizes to fit your gun.

I am using the Lee 255 gr PB with good success in my BH.
I just cast some Lee 300s to try, but as I have those earmarked for full house loads, I GC'd them.

My Bisley 7.5 shoots that boolet quite well (ragged hole @ 35yds from sandbags) with 11gr AA#5. My throats were opened to .4525 years ago I think the grooves are .452, it's been long enough that I don't remember. I also had the forcing cone cut to 11 degrees. What accuracy level are you expecting? Shoot Straight, T-Bird

I'm going to try shooting some 325 grain boolits from the Lyman #452651. It's still a little undersized for the throats but at this point what's to loose. T-Bird, the problem I'm having is the cylinder throats are measuring at .454 or slightly larger with a .451 bore. The RCBS 270 SAA boolit does not group well at all. From a rest it is flinging them all over. The only other load I have shot in this gun was some Winchester cowboy action loads and they shot much better. Thanks for the suggestions.

if you could find some 452664's they could work for you also. [250 gr]
the heavier boolit could do the trick, as it would still be supported as they entered the throat.
the older 454424's did actually pour at 454.
mine does.
44 mans advice could work as well, by bypassing the cylinder throats and going directly for the bbl.

I really like the lee 255 rnfp its easy to pour and shoots out of my 2 blackhawks, redhawk .454 at colt and casull velocities and my puma .454 at both colt and casull velocities. If you are that unhappy I 'll be glad to relieve you of that mold
