View Full Version : Load Suggestions Please
I have a Marlin 1894 CBC, 38 Special, ( w/ Ballard rifling ).
Today, I cast about 200, 358429's ( w/ the " square bottom " lube groove ). They are dropping from the mold at a nice , round, .360 ".
Do you have a favorite load ( general purpose load ) that you'd like to suggest for this combination.
Thanks,
Ben

I like 5.0 grs of Unique but be aware it is listed as a max. load. Might start with 4.5 grs and see how that floats your boat. It is also listed as one of the most accurate loads in one of my manuals.
Hicard:
Thanks, I've already shot 5.5 grs. of Russian Unique ( Salute ) in my rifle.
Everything went just fine...brass ejects smoothly. Primers look fine. Very accurate load.

3.2 grains of bullseye runs real nice in my 1866 uberti
Haven't tried that one, I've got plenty of B'eye. I'll try 3.2 tomorrow.
Many thanks,
Ben

I got some remarkable accuracy using WSF in light loads with my marlin in .357.
I don't currently have any WSF, but if it shoots that good, maybe I need to get a lb. of it.

Try 3.5 gr of Red Dot or 3.5 gr of WST or 5 gr of Unique. They all shoot good for me.

The other day, after firing a bunch of 5.0 gr of Unique loads I fired the last five into a separate target. Then I fired ten rounds with 15.0 grs 3F Goex into the same target. The Goex rounds dropped into the same group as the 5.0 grs of Unique. Didn't have to make a sight change. Lots of smoke & lots of fun...

I've found WSF and Herco to be practically interchangeable grain for grain giving the same velocities in both the 9mm and 38spl/.357 mag. Accuracy seems to be identical also. The WSF meters a little better as it's finer grained.

I like the Lee 125 rnfp in my Marlin for a plinking load. I have been loading it in a magnum case though.
