worked a gun show this weeked, and today i picked up a few goodies. teo of these are a new 323470 lyman mould and a like new 311334.

the 323 appears to be a lovern 165. i currently shoot the lee gb 175 which does well in my rifle.
any users any opinions ?

the 311 would appear to be similar to the 311/314299's but i little shorter with a listed weight of 190. again my large bore 30's like the 314299.....is the 334 in the same boat, just lighter ?

thanks

Can't speak on the 323470, but I have two 311334s that I can only use for a Ruger 77 that has a very tight bore diameter. Both molds cast .299/.300 on their noses & barely .311 on their bodies. Fortunately, that is the exact size I need for the Ruger. Cast in WW they drop at about 190 grains & with 19.5 grains of SR4759 give right at 1650 fps. My notes say, "to lightly smoke & cast about 750 degrees."

This bullet was discontinued by Lyman some years ago. It has since become much sought after as it performs very well in the 1903-A3 with two groove barrels. The reason for this is that most of the circumference of the 2 groove barrel is "lands" and the 334 has a short bullet body and a long nose that rides on those lands and is positively guided by them. The same applies to the 1917 (Enfield design) rifles made by Remington, Winchester and Eddystone in 30-06 which have 5 lands and grooves. Again a large amount of land surface makes good use of the 334's long nose. Lyman still has the #311332 which is a similar design to the 334...some would say a clone, but the problem that appears to be surrounding it is that Lyman is producing it undersize particularly in the nose dimension..namely instead of being .301-.302 it is turning up with a nose measurement of .297-.299. The result is that when the bullet goes down the barrel it tilts off axis and exits the muzzle in that posture and the accuracy down range is not so hot to punk. I would suggest that you keep and treasure your 334 as it is a classic design. LLS

I have had good luck with the 334 in my 1/12" CZ 550FS. I have to Beagle the mold a bit to get the nose size up. They are prime candidates in my high speed experiments, looking for that high BC the 334 has. I know of a serious competitor that swears by it. You scored, on everything! Good on ya.

I've shot the 8mm bullet and it seems to work very well with 16 to 18 grs of 2400

I used to run a 311334 in a 788 chambered in .308 Winchester . The last time I loaded any was for a 1903 and A3 , both had tight four groove barrels and shot real well at mederate velocity .
