I have a metal target for .22lr.
10" di, 1/4" thick.
There is a hole in the certer for the bullseye.
I'm trying to get a bell to ring, only when you hit the bullseye.
So far I've tried:
---Just putting the bell in the opening, but bullets destroy it after a few shots.
---Adding a metal flap, but when you hit the target , the flap bounces and hits the bell.
---Moving the flap away from the target, but the flap hitting the bell destroys it.
The target is hanging from chains so it moves when hit.
I don't want to make it so heavy so that it will not move when hit.

Any ideas, suggestions?????

I would think the flap hitting the bell would work. If the flap hits the bell too hard you just need a thicker/heavier flap.

Seems like with a 22 it wouldnt take too much,

Weld a rod on the end of the flap and attach the bell to the rod. Me thinks that is worth a try. Hmm maybe weld it to the back of the flap so the bell doesnt get fraged.

Targets look great.
How does the bell get rung???
Does the bullet go through the funnel and hit the bell????
I have a bell like that.
Came from a school. Fell down when the center broke out.

Target I have needs to be a little more portable than the one you made.
I've also made those silhouette targets. 50-pig, 75-turkey, 100-ram.
Have them on stands, so they can be set-up at the different distances.

If you know of someplace that you can get elevator balast weights. They make great HP targets.
Don't know what king of metal there made of, but 30.06 don't even make a dent in it.

thanks . yes the bullet has to go through the hole and the funnel cone guides the bullet
to hit the edge of the bell. here are some more targets. these are swingers and
the small one is the size of a dollor

these are a little biger and i put these out further.

this is the back of my moveing targer. gravity resets it,

the pulleys are from a scrap clother dryer and the motor is multi speed furnace
blower motor.

i took a short vedio but i can,t find it on the SD card????
u like portable target stands. heres the ticket for u. old leaf care springs.
u leave the bolt a bit loose so it can fold up.

in this pic the car spring is closed up. the targer holder is square that fits inside another square. a thick piece of angle iron protects the base so the square don't
get dented up.

Such fantastic craftsmen we have here! Those are just wonderful targets.
My best gong is an old oxygen tank at 100 yards for the big bores, no rifles allowed unless BP. But a .22 will make a lot of noise too.
The loudest gun to hit it is an original Smith carbine a friend has. That big slow boolit makes a great clang.

jbunny, Those are some cool targets !! Target's like that make shooting fun. I've just been welding up stands for steel plate out of rebar but I think it's time to make something more creative after seeing your post's. Nice work.

thanks firebricker; i usealy set up with ring the bell and the small spinners ending
with the moveing target, i shot each at the movers, 4 and 6 inch. thats 10 shots
standing ,off hand , no slings, at 25 meters, 10 seconds. i get the ocasional 10 for 10.
the rifle fit is the key and the factory stocks NEVER fit me. i use a TC/R55 and
a ruger 10-22 target rifles. they are both highly modified. i know u want pics.
i made an adjustable cheek piece and cut 1 inch of the barrel and tapered it. it was just to muzzle heavy to shoot offhand.

this is a explosive target that i haven't used in a while.
it's for black powder front stuffers called the buddy or bloody shoot,
depending on who is paired with who. u use a rem power nail driver
blank and u have to hit the bulleye with a rifle and the soup can gets shot
up in the air, up to 300 ft depending on what power charge u use. u notice the
3 grooves where the blank goes. there is a tiny flat spot in 3 spots and that
is the reverse fireing pins. the whole thing sits in a saddle so it can be aimed
straigh up or left or right. the soup can goes in with the closed end up.
kids realy get a charge out of this. big kids too. hehehehe
