Thanks guys, this is a very helpful site.

Does anyone have some 405 gr. 45-70 bullets that I can buy. I would like 20 or 25.
I am shooting them in a Marlin lever gun. I just bought the Lee 340 gr mold, but I am not happy with the results.
I found some 405 Oregon Trail bullets under the bench, they shoot great. I can't find a mold like them so I want to try other molds till I find one that will shoot like I want.
I can buy or I have other cast bullets I can trade.
Anyone?

Have you slugged your bore? I may have some 400 gr stashed but they measure .462 if I recall.

44wcf,

E-mail your shipping information to mike@mastercastbullets.com and I will send you several of the .45 405 grain bullets I have here. I think I even have some 405 grain RCBS gas checked bullets made up...I will have to check on that one. Do you have a lube/sizer?

Mike

If you wish, I can send you 457-405-F bullets, or 459-405-HB.. One is a flat nose, the other is a hollow base.. Send me your address if either of these will help..

What mold is used for the 457-405?

Both Lee Molds...

If you are not shooting a marlin, I also have C457-500-F If is a 500 grain gas checked bullet.. It is too long to work in a marlin unless you single load them through the ejection port.. Once it is loaded, you have to take the bolt out to remove the bullet, or shoot it...

For what it is worth, I have the 340 Lee, and it drops as cast at .459, and I just do the lee mule snot on them as cast, and they shoot quite well in my @1. At the very least a good plinking load. Don't overlook the lyman 385 round nose either. Mine shoots more accurately in my rifle than any other cast blt of any weight.

That's good of you to limit how many boolits you're asking for. I guess 40 is too few and 80 would be over doing it.

You may want to try some of the RD 360 grainers or whatever they were. They shoot VERY well out of my 1886 and Remington Rolling Block.

44wcf, You are on the right track.:holysheep
I have tried several boolets for my Marlin
Cowboy.
And the RCBS 405gc. is a good flyer in that gun.
My load is37.5gr. of IMR 4198.
The boolets get sized and a coat of JPW.
After the JPW dries over night.
Then back in the sizer to lube the groves.
These booles will tuch 3rd. groups at 100yds.:cbpour:
