I don't have a set weight on this, but would prefer one between 150 and 180 grains.
I am going to be shooting these fairly slow, 1100-1200fps. So I am thinking I could get by with out a GC as long as the base comes out nice and flat.

Any of you have a tried and true design? I am thinking somthing like a 311340 or a 311351 would do the job.
Once again any and all comments are appriciated.

............There was the Lee custom order done on the 30 Plinker about a year ago. You might log in on the old Aimoo board and do a search for '30 cal plinker' or just 'Plinker'. The only smallbore PB slugs I've ever shot were the Ly 311410's @ 130grs in the 7.62x39, 30 M1 (pistol), 30-30, and 7.65x53 Arg, and a Saeco .336, 205gr in the 8x56R.

The Lyman did really good at 50 yards and up to 1600 fps. The Saeco at 1200 fps was fine. Anything hotter and it went south, but I think rifle issues and using 209 shotshell primers in the milsurp cases had somehting to do with that.

I am having good luck with the RCBS 30-165-sil. Lubed with felix , and sized one thou over grove. A Dime covers groups at 50yd at that speed with R#7 and bhn 24 alloy. ....buck

The Lyman 311008, although lighter than you want, is still in production and works pretty good with light charges of Unique. I don't own one of those moulds, but was given a goodly supply of boolits by a friend. I tried them in my Krag, M39 Finn, and 2 30-30s with great results.
I bought a 311 241, which weighs 155 grains out of ww, on eBay last year and cast up a bunch, but never used them until 2 weeks ago. What I wanted was a boolit that dropped about .311 from the mould so that I didn't have to size (or add checks of course) hence just lightly tumble lube and load. These drop out at .313, so they do need sizing first. My first trial was using 14 grains of 2400 in my Krag, and 10 rounds went into 3" at 100 yards with a velocity of 1314 fps. I can see this one will be used quite a bit and have some more loaded up for my next trip to the range. I still see this number for sale on eBay every once in a while.

Man, I don't know where you'd find those old numbers.

Take a look at the 30-150-CM RCBS. It's available, plain base and shoots pretty well for me with Reloader 7 up to about 1700 FPS.

I just ran a bunch of tests using it in sub-sonic loads down in the 5-600 FPS range. With a dacron wad and light charges of fast burning powders, it did well at 50 yards.

I'd say in the velocity range you are looking for it should shoot pretty accurately at 100 yards with a dacron wad to protect the base.

Besides, it's a RCBS and they cast good.

Weighs right at 150 grains also./beagle

Jeff: In addition to the prev.good ideas, let me add the Saeco#630,a nominal 140 gr.boolit.. maybe lighter than your taste, but it has done fine work for me in a # of 30 Calibers. Onceabull

JSH: You didn,t say what caliber you were refering to, That boolit that Bravokilo was refering to cast out at .314 I looked it up on the Lyman bullet mold information page. Just type in the boolit your searching for and see what comes up.Good luck in your quest. I shoot the saeco #630 boolit that onceabull shoots. [smilie=f:

Caliber, well it is gonna be a grand old timer. The 32-20, BUT, it is actually a 308 bore so the 30-20. And well, uh yes, it is in a peestol the BF. The bore is fairly snug on this.3075-.308. So I think as long as I don't mess up the lube grooves I will be all right.
I have shot .309 and .310's in it. The .310's seem to fly higher, sound about right to you fellas?
If you have not noticed, I fool with pistols for the most part, but there have been a few milsurps slip in here in the last year or two. But as far as the "30-20" goes, dunno what any of you have read on the 300 Whisper, aka 300x221. But this old round will do right close to 100% of the 300x221 a whole lot easier. I have ran every thing from 110's to 190's through my TC and BF am very pleased with them, all condom bullets. That is changing thanks to many at this board.
I have really come to like this round and it is my favorite to fool with. I passed on an old Savage bolt gun in this quite a few years back and have always wondered how it would have shot.
Thanks again fellas, will give me some more to look at.
Sometimes I feel like a dog chasing a deer, the chase is the fun part. Once you catch it you are looking for another, lol.

JSH, Jim Harris at LASC sent me a bunch of heavy bullet .32-20 data. I tried sending it to you as a PM but it is too long for that format. If you want it, send me your email and I will forward it to you.
