I loaded up a few of these today just to shoot over the Chronograph to get an idea where I was on velocity.

39.5 grains of H4227 and CCI 200 primers was the max I tried today and averaged 1650 over three shots with no signs of pressure. That is about 100 fps short of what I was aiming for but was as much as would fit without compressing. I am going to switch to 110 or lil gun and see if I can get it up to about 1750-1800.

Hi happy7,
Stay away from Lil'gun and stick with H110 or W296 if you are looking for top verocity andf accuracy with 400gr or under with 500S&W. I've found its hard on forcing cone. I see some people love that powder but I personally don't see any advantage ove H110/W296.

Wow! you could just hurt someone with the loaded ammo, nevermind shooting them with it!

You are so right! These things are sharp......

Cast these with 20:1 WW/Solder and water dropped so they are pretty hard... Definitely have to be careful when loading....

What are you guys using for a seating stem? My RCBS 500 S&W die set came with 2 seating stems for flat point/swc boolits and are bored too shallow to clear the sharp points.

The Lee dies have a seating stem that is perfect for this boolit. I think that will be your best bet to just buy the Lee seating die, which should not be that expensive. Otherwise, you could but just the seating insert from the Lee die and possibly have it machined to fit your RCBS dies.

happy7,
Thanks for the info. It's not uncommon for me to have dies from more than one company for each caliber. I've purchased Redding expanding dies for all my straight wall calibers if I didn't already have the Redding die set. I like the small step the redding die makes in the expanded case. It makes easier to start the seating process "square" when using cast boolits. Buying the Lee die set will be the easy way to go.
