There has been some discussion about the timing of the close dates of the group buys that I have running. I posted the following in one of the other group buys and felt it pertained to all of them, so I am posting it here as well.
To Everyone else about close dates. When I open a group buy I set a close date 2 months after opening. This allows everyone interested to take a look at it and decide if it is something that they want to participate in. In the case of the 460 molds I set a date a week and a half after New Years to give people time to figure out how Christmas went.
Shooting, Casting and Reloading is a hobby. It is something that should be accomplished with extra funds that may be available. If you are taking money from your family's needs to do this, then you need to reassess your priorities. We joke about casting as an addiction, but if you need help, please get it.
Close dates are set so as to give some expectation of when to expect movement. Group buys are not placed on the manufacturing schedule until received by NOE with the funds to pay for them. There are expenses that are incurred before manufacturing starts (such as ordering the tooling). Unless the minimum number of molds is met it is not financially feasible to start the process on a mold.
There has been some discussion about getting in on a group buy between the close date and the production date. That policy still has to be determined. Something to keep in mind though. If a group buy doesn't close it doesn't get on the schedule. This group buy is THE perfect example. More than the minimum number of people expressed an interest in it before I opened it. However, things happen and only 6 of the molds ordered have been paid for so far. The order will NOT get placed with NOE until at least 15 have been paid for.
If someone thinks that I am getting free use of the money until the order is placed with NOE they are mistaken. The funds are sitting in my safe, not in my bank account. I normally don't deposit the checks or money orders until about a week before I place the order with NOE.
If someone that has ordered and paid for a mold in a group buy that I have not sent to NOE would like their money back, I will cheerfully return it. I have done so in the past and I am willing to do so again. If you have ordered a mold and not paid but need to cancel, that is fine as well. I would appreciate it if you would make a serious commitment to buy when you order. However, as in phaessler's case, unexpected stuff happens and your responsibility to your family comes first.
Also, PLEASE, name calling about this is unnecessary. We all do this for enjoyment. If someone has a problem with anything that I have done or said, please PM me and we will discuss it. I am always open to listening to good ideas, some I will even use.
Thanks for sharing in a hobby that I have grown to love in this last year.
Pour a hot one!
Jim
p.s. I will be copying and pasting this into my other group buys as well.

I will be leaving in the morning to visit the inlaws for a few days. Since they don't feel the need to have internet access I will be out of touch until I get home on New Years eve. I will answer PMs and questions then. My mail is being held at the PO, so any payments sent will be safe. Have a Happy New Year everyone.

Uhhh not exactly !
He has to run it until the cutoff date as stated in the first post and then give folks a few days more to get funds to him in case they signed up late !
This thing is scheduled for 1/10/10 so I would "assume" best case scenario for sending the funds and order to NOE would most likely be 1/20-31/10 .

Scheduling for production takes place after the order is placed. From a previous conversation with SwedeNelson, I think that tooling comes in within a few weeks of ordering. Therefore the tooling is ready when the shop is.

No kidding Jim, don't do that. I'm in on another group buy and just haven't been able to cough the money for these two 460 molds, blasted truck broke and nothing five bills wouldn't cure but the one I"m in on I'd just as soon wait a year for as to have it come through crappy.
Thanks for honcho'ing these group buys and hopefully will be able to get in on some more.

Art,
I had a discussion with Al about the lead times on getting these produced. Even though the group buy is closed so that I can get it to NOE, don't rule out getting one. I will be running a supplemental group buy as the production date gets close. Keep an eye on the GB forums.

Thanks Jim I will keep an eye on things. I'm just starting to realize what the words "quality mold" means. I made a post HERE (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?p=781689#post781689)about that. Amazing the difference between current production commercial molds and what was made 35 years ago, I had NO idea until I got this most recent mold and am HAPPY to wait for a custom mold.
Going back to work soon (woo-hoo!!) so money should loosen up a bit........it that dang truck doesn't break again..........

Everything I order has GC's and I've never seen Jim list a GC unless you want som many cavities GC vs PB .

An so it continues. After speaking with SwedeNelson about taking orders until close to manufacturing date, I will continue to take orders on this group buy. It is scheduled for manufacture in July. So, If you are interested, contact me and I will add you to the list of orders.
I had planned on running a formal supplemental group buy for the last six weeks (and may still do do). If so, I will close this thread and open a new one with the existing orders.

My 45-70 is an older microgroove marlin. The slot that the spent cases are ejected from is shorter or narrower in the front that new guns. The nose of the Cast Performance 405's hit the front of the slot when being ejected (unfired) and hang up when you eject the unfired round.
I am wondering if these will do the same? Guess I will do some measuring and see what the nose and crimp groove dimensions look like before ordering one of these.
Edit- Wow no wonder... the meplat measures .372 vs .331 on this mold and the length from nose to crimp groove measures .455 vs .395 on this mold. Considering that I can eject the rounds if a crank them out fast, I am sure that they will cycle just fine.
Please put me down for one of these too!!!!

Any chance that you will be putting out a big brother to this mold? 500 grains?

I know, but they are designed for black powder. Big and few lube grooves.

Joe, I don't have a plan to run a 500gr 460 boolit right now. Perhaps after Swede's group buy is done.
Thanks,
Jim

Tom,
It's still open. The first post describes what is available. What would you like?
Thanks,
Jim
