View Full Version : Chamber dimension and feed reliability question...

A few years back I picked up a pre-saftey Winchester 94 Trapper in .45 Colt for a song. It had been used as a movie prop gun and not cleaned after firing BP blanks, so the bore was pretty rough, but the rest of the gun looked great. I have found someone to rebarrel it, and my question is this...

Linebaugh uses a .480 diameter chamber reamer for this caliber (as opposed to SAAMI-spec .484-.489) to effect a beter seal and cause less working of the brass, which is usually sized to .476 or .477. Would using tighter reamer like this in a levergun have a negative impact on feed reliability? I am planning to use the 270SAA bullet for the most part. The gun feeds them like butter now. I am thinking it would be worthwhile to go ahead and buy a tight chamber reamer and send it with the gun because then I could have one of my Smith Mountain Guns re-cylindered and chambered using the same reamer. I don't plan on hot-rodding loads for the Winchester.

Seems like a good idea to me, what do y'all think?
