Ok, I just ourchased a drilling in 9.3 x 72R and 16 guage x2. What molds are available for it? Anyone have any sughgestions? I have a half dozen 38-55 molds but understand the 9.3 is .366 diameter. Can cases and dies be had? Barrels are nitro proofed, what kind of data can I use? Any help is appreciated. moodyholler

..............Deputy Al had Mountain Moulds make him one for his 9.3x62. I think it's 268grs or so. Er, maybe it was 286 grs :-). If your 375" cast slugs are like, or you have the Lyman 264gr slug it can be sized down. Lube-size it to .375" then send it up through a .366" (or whatever the groove needs to be) push through sizer. I've sized .323" Lyman 323470's to .314" and they worked great. Going from .375" to .366" is less then that.

Moodyholler--

What a fine hunting setup that drilling would be!

If you'd like some samples of the MM castings, PM me with a snail mail addy to send them to. They run about 270 grains in 92/6/2 alloy, and fall out at .368" or so. They use a .375" gas check.

I have also paper-patched some pure lead #358430's to about .367", and these shot VERY well through my 9.3 x 62 bolter.

Moodyholler,

A friend in Missoula has aquired a 9.3. I have made some moulds for him that he is in the process of trying out. I've attached some pictures of the the three styles so far. We made a swaging of the chamber neck/throat/barrel area. We felt a driving band diameter of about .369 would work well. These are lube sized with a .370 sizer. You can see the shiney areas where the sizer touched. The driving band portion are the same on all three. The two pointed ones have slightly different lengths. Trying for some fit variations. The flat point one may be too big. His barrel tapered from .370 just forward of the neck to .366 almost .75 forward. They run in the 240 to 250 range with the WW mix I have.

If you would like some samples to try, send me a snail mail address.

Deputy Al,

Would you tell me some more about the method you are using to gas check your bullets.

I have an NEI mould, for the 9.3, it casts 2-260 grn and 2-304 grn. The 304's don't work for me in a 9.3x57. But the 260's do very well. If anyone ever gets a group buy for a 6 cavity 9.3 about 250 grns, I am interested. Or should anyone have a multi-cavity in this cal. and would like to sell? Slip me a PM.
