Know this is more cast boolits than loading, but... I have a Lipsey Ruger BH 44 Spec coming. I want to load probably nothing but the Keith LSWC 240-255 grn. I know I will need to check the cylinder diameter. Haven't reloaded in a number of years and getting restarted.

Can anyone suggest loads for the 44 Special? 44 Mag with the same Keith boolit and a 280-300 grn lead boolit. Ditto for the 45 ACP with the 200 grn H&G 68.

I am very familiar with all the old powders. If anyone is using any of the newer powders that have potential, Pls let me know. Thanx!

My .44 Lipsey Special has near perfect throats @.431" and I size my bullets to .430" - this is what I get with the MiHec H&G #503:

This was shot standing at 25 yards.
The load was a target load of 4.1 Clays behind the MiHec #503 250 gr Keith.

It also works VERY well with the Skeeter load (7.5 grs of Unique) behind the same bullet.

The Clays load chronographs at 700 fps and I will increase the next batch to 4.5 grs. That area is a VERY comfortable target load that is just pure pleasure to shoot.

The Skeeter load is considerably more "brisk" at about 950 fps and is one of the best "field loads" ever.

My shooting buddy, Ddeaton, has one and his throats are spot on like mine. We are both very happy campers with these revolvers.

the 200 swc and 6 grs unique is hard to beat.
5 grs titegroup matches the vel but is snappier in the recoil area.
and 7 grs unique in the 44 special is a good one.
as is 2400 a good choice.
there's a reason the old powders are still around.

IF you have any 2400, you are in good shape . 17gr will get you about 1080fps with the 429421 you can up or down from there...Elem Keith used to push to 20gr before the 44mag came out. I like the 17gr load, accurate, nothing fancy, large pistol primer.

I never go past 17gr because I don't need to, I have a 44 mag for that, I use 21 gr of 2400 with the mag. That is all the recolil I want. I like the 17gr load in the special or mag. Just my humble openion for plinking and varmints, if I'm hunting I use the 44mag, not that the special won't kill a deer.

Get one of the various FREE Hodgdon reloading booklets and look at the cowboy action shooting loads. Compare to the maximum conventional loads and find a starting point under the velocity you desire and work up.

I really like TITEGROUP and HP-38 (WW-231) in 357 and 44. I recently started experimenting with POWER PISTOL and RED DOT. The next project is "rifle specific" loads in 357 and 44 for my MARLIN Cowboy rifles. H-110/296 or AA-7 or 9 look to be the good choices. UNIQUE and 2400 are also good choices.
