I had my 30-30 Marlin 336 rebored and rechambered to 356 Winchester during the summer by Mr. Ocumpaugh after seeing notice of his work here on the forum. He also shortened the barrel to 17" and the magazine to half and installed a new front sight. His work was simply excellent.

This cartridge is the easiest one I've ever set up for a cast boolit with great results. It's a 1/12 , three groove barrel now. Less than a hundred cast bulets total including 20 for hunting use. I used the RCBS 35-200-FN, just kissed by the .360 die, and enough Varget to get 1950 fps looking at 358 W tables for jacketed and without leading. It will put 5 in an inch and a quarter @ 100 yards, Cast of 15 pounds of WW,2 pounds of lead, and 1 pound of linotype to total eighteen pounds. The bullets weighed 208 grains sized and lubed and dipped in thinned alox.

I got little 4-point deer of close to 120 pounds with a front angling mid-ribs shot last night , where the boolit ended up under the skin on the opposite ham. It weighed 182 grains, no gas check, and the nose had flattened with a half classic mushroom of 58 caliber. Deer made 30 yards to collapse. Good ! I need a short drag to where the truck can come at the end of our path to the Little Fishing Creek. Good Hunting to you.

Yes, Jesse does do good work. And you didn't do too bad either!
I shoot the Group Buy version of that boolit in the 336 he rebored for me a couple of years ago.
If you are still in the load development stage, try BL-C(2) or Accurate 2520.

Just for grins and memories of the old Remington 200 grain RN in an old model 14 35 pump I loaded a few under accurate 2230-c bulk and got an inch at 100 at 2100fps(by the book). But I like the alloy shooting better. BvT

John Haviland has a write up on the 356 cartridge in Rifle this month.

His article displayed a lot less appreciation for the 356 than I have experienced from those who have used the cartridge. I definitely love both of mine. Tony

Good job. I have come to the conclusion, that .35 bore rifles are pure poison for hunting. Things stay shot.
