The question is very broad. What gun or group of guns are you interested in? The 45 Colt is chambered in single shot rifles, revolvers (both sa &da), lever action. The gun is also given the LC handle which will open a Texas size thread but it is correctly called 45 Colt. I mean this post in a constructive criticism manner and not as a I know more than you answer. You will find that when it comes to bore size for this cartridge it will go from 450 to 456 or more. Most current guns are in the 452 area it seems. There are guns with 452 bbls and 456 chambers which does not work well. I shoot all the revolvers and rifles I have with 454 cast and it seems to work best.

i've just used 452 as a size in my older navy arms 24 oct my new lsi 24 oct and my slightly [3 years old] older 20 carbine they have all done well.
if one is giving me issues with leading then i go digging.
the 452 size has worked from c-boy poof loads through hunting loads and 2400 or h-110.
if you think you need larger, try measuring inside a fired case that will tell you how big will chamber.

If you are going to shoot a wheel gun in 45C, slug the throats, if there big enough load a .454
dia. boolit and be done with it.
I have RNMBHs (3) Uberti Cattelmans, Thunderers and 1875 Outlaws (9) Rossi lever guns (3) and a Marlin 1892 CB. I shoot .454 @ 9-12 BHN in all, I get good accuracy and NO leading.

I assume you're talking about the Puma lever action.

I have two in 45LC, one runs .454, the other slightly over .452

.4535 works in either.
