I've got an RCBS 300grn GC mold for 45-70. I took some of these and sized them down to .452 loaded with 10grs. of Unique in .45 Colt for the 1894. They shoot good and are thumpers. Anybody else done this? Thoughts?

Haven't done that but I have sized down #477122HPs, 457191s and RCBS 45-325-FN-Us to .452 and shot them in teh .45 Colt Blackhawk and my friend has shot a bunch in his .454 Casull.

They work really good especially the RCBS whis is PB and a bit shorter./beagle

I usually shoot a bunch of 300gr Lee boolits in my 45 Colts. I have sized a 457124 (500gr Lyman RN) from 458 to 452 to shoot out of my 460 S&W.

Yeah, I did something like that years ago in a .45 Colt Contender. For details see:

I have that mold and the RCBS 325gr universal also.I have a 1895 45/70 and an 1894 45 Colt but haven't got to try that yet. It's nice to get more use out of one bullet that way.I also have a 454 Super Redhawk. I guess it was sort of stupid to go buy an LBT 300gr. when I already had the others.

Yup, been there done that with the 292 gr Lyman sized down to 454 in my ruger black hawks, workes fine for me. I now have a better varity of molds, but this worked in about 1980 before I had more 45 molds and wanted to play with a heavy boolit.

I have the Win M94 trapper, and I have to say I haven't gotten good groups with heavy bullets in the rifle. Most anything shoots OK in the revolvers with reasonable charges (Rugers & S$W) but when I have tried heavier than 265 gr. loads in the trapper the groups were poor. With the 454424 Lyman 260 gr. and 12 to 14 gr of HERCO the rifle is a good thumper, so I have settled on that, but 300 gr. bullets with any load that is reasonable to shoot in a Ruger doesn't seem to work. Especially I haven't had any good results with 2400 powder.

I use 457191 in my Marlin, and don't size them down. The chamber is so big that .458" bullets seated in the cases will chamber just fine, and it blows a lot less crud back into the action and my face. I had to make a bigger expander for the second die, but after that it works great. I load for 1050 fps for cowboy silhouette, and it works great.
