41mag imr4227 deer hunting load update

Ended up at 19.5gns of imr 4227. started at 18.0 and worked up on through 20.0. This was shot with a ruger 41mag new model 4 5/8 barrel. Iron sights off of sandbags at 25yards. 220gn cast bullets pan lubed barrel was nice and clean just a little powder residue. This is a pic of a 5 shot group

TomCat, Have you tested that load for accuracy at 50-75 Yrds?

No not yet but thats my next step. Hunting wise I don't plan on shooting past 40yds with this gun. Even at that it going to have to be off a good rest for my shooting abilities.

I normally use H-110 for .41 loads but I have a neighbor that has a lot of IMR 4227 he wants to sell. So if you continue to get good groups at 50 yards. I might make him an offer.

A now deceased shooting buddy swore by 4227 in both his 41 and 357 loads. I don't believe he used anything else in his 41's. Sorry I don't know the load he used but do remember the majority of his shooting was done with jacketed bullets.

Finally got out and shot at 45 yards. Groups are right around 2 3/4 inches if i do my part. This is off of sandbags with iron sights. With the 4 5/8 inch barrel I'm more than pleased with that.
