Hello all, have not been here for a while! I need a little help with my new purchase, a MRI lone eagle pistol in .444 marlin. I have a bunch of rainier 300g bullets I want to use up. I have always loaded rainier the same as cast. checked all of my manuals and I have no load data for cast 300g, probably due to the twist rate of most .444's but mine is 1 in 22 so it should be able to use them. I would like to get around 1,500 fps, can you help me out?

I have:
Red Dot
Unique
Imr 3031
Xmr 5744
Reloader #7

I am considering just trying 10g of red dot or unique if I do not get better info.

...............TREERAT, well my 444 isn't in a steenking Peestol :-) but a Martini with a 24" bbl so velocities will need to be adjusted.

Lee 310gr C430-310-F:

14.0 Unique, 1320 fps 16 ES

17.0 Blue Dot, 1450 fps 33 ES

16.0 2400, 1230 fps ES 62 (need more powder Scottie! :-))

23.0 H4227, 1516 fps 27 ES (dacron) Close match for your XMR 5744

25.0 SR4759, 1650 fps 22ES (dacron) Close match for your XMR 5744

30.0 H4198, 1600 fps 19 ES (dacron) (this would kinda match your RL-7)

36.0 IMR3031, 1560 fps 45 ES (dacron)

45.0 Surplus 4895, 1610 fps 40 ES (dacron)

None of the above were hot loads.

thanks, buckshot.

I did find a load using 5744 and a hornady xtp 300g, would I be safe to use the rainier in place of the xtp?

TREERAT, That's gotta be a handful ! I don't have a 300gr mould yet so I've been using the 300gr XTPs over 52gr of H-322. I found that load in one of Brian Pierce's article's in Handloader. For lighter loads 429244 with 2400 is a good combo. If you get a chance post a pic sounds like a neat handgun to me. FB

I suggest using publish load data for carbines and subtract 20% of velocity to estimate your revolver's velocity.

That is one big, heavy revolver - which is probably a good thing considering the cartridge! [smilie=l:

Not a revolver, it is a single shot, cannon breach pistol. and yes with factory hornady It is pretty brutal to the web of your hand.
