I was given 2 boxes of 30-40 Krag ammo and 1 box of 30-40 brass.
I do not have or shoot a 30-40 but know someone who does.
Is it OK to send the ammo and brass to him as a gift?
If so how to do it the best way?
The loaded ammo is in its original boxes and is probably a collectors item so I hate to take it down and destroy the value of it.
If you know of a way for me to ship it let me know please.

For brass, just mail it. The ammo needs an ORMD sticker or notice written on the outside of the package.

Ammunition cannot go USPS. Needs to be shipped UPS or I suppose FedEx but don't know about FedEx for sure. Regards, WOody

The nice lady at Fedex told me it would cost minimum $80.00 to ship four boxes of 222 ammo....about three lbs. total.

UPS will ship it at the same rate as any other package but it has to have the ORM-D sticker and needs to be taken to a UPS store, not one of the local "Pack 'n Ship". The closest one to me is 50 miles away.

Oh...and be prepared to answer some technical questions...like...."How many calivers are in there?"...and..."How do you know that guy's not going to use that to kill himself?

Jerry

P.S. My answers to the questions......"22".......and....."Why would anybody need sixty rounds to kill himself, one should be enough."

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to have a direct conversation with a FedEx Hazardous Material Specialist and I specifically questioned him about shipping loaded/reloaded ammo. He said that as long as there were ORM-D labels affixed to the outside of the package, FedEx would ship them by Ground just the same as any other package. However, if you wish to ship them by FedEx Air then you have to fill out a Shipper's Invoice and one other form, the number and name of which I can't recall right at the moment. I haven't had the opportunity to test this out as yet but considering the fact that there were several FedEx employees in the room at the time that he was explaining this to me and they all seemed to understand what he was saying, I don't anticipate any problems if/when I have reason to ship some reloads to my son out in Ohio.

UPS will take them. As others have mentioned must be marked ORM-D (Other Regulated Material- Domestic) and also "Cartridges, Small Arms". They should also be in cartridge boxes so they don't flop around in the box...Ray
