Hey guys, I have been a long time lurker here. I just started casting some 200 gr .452 flat nose for 45 acp. They are dropping at .453 . Now my 1911 does just fine with 452 LRN 230gr that I have been buying from the shop. My question is, is that .001 gonna make a huge difference? If so, what kind of difference do you think it will make. I haven't slugged the barrel, so I'm just going off how it shoots the .452's. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First off, welcome to the forum!

As long as the .453" boolits chamber freely, they will work just fine......maybe even better than the .452".

Hey thanks.. I will load up a couple of dummies and see how they chamber. Thanks for the info.

If your not going to size the bullets, it can make a difference. More belling of the case mouth is need. The bullet still might shave lead on bullet seating, depends on the die. It may not chamber in your gun. Extra taper crimping might be needed.

+1 - If it chambers, shoot it.

The best advice I was given was to use the Lyman "M" die to expand the case. It words great for loading my .45's. If you want to check a lot of boolits, take the barrle off and drop the loaded rounds in as they exit your press.
+2 or is it +3 for if it chambers shoot it.

BMcCoy,

After you make up your dummy rounds, pull the boolits and measure them. You want to make sure that your seating die is not down-sizing them.

Yep, as 257 Shooter said, Lyman's "M" neck expander die is the way to go.

Also, you should seat and crimp in two seperate opertions. Doing so will eliminate lead shaving.
