I bought about 200 lbs. of lead cast in 1-1/2 lb muffin tin ingots about a year ago and some were marked CAB and some with just a C. I melted about 18 lbs in my 20 lb pot and fluxed and after a few minutes the top of the melt had a faint yellowish-gold tint to it. Is that an indication of a fair amount of tin in the melt? any idea why the previous melter used the cab and c on the different ingots. The guy I bought it from wasn't the melter, he bought it at a yard sale so he couldn't tell me any info.

I suppose the CB could be cast bullets but I haven't clue what the C would indicate. Why not just melt a couple of them and see how they cast? Don't mix them with you other alloys yet though in case there is zinc in them..

My guess is a faint yellowish-gold tint would be a high amount of antimony mixed with lead. When i melted magnum shot containing 6% antimony i seem to remember different colors not seen before. I know for sure the color of the bullets was darker and different also.

I would say yes. I obtained about 20lbs of scrap pewter (97% tin) millings from a factory, melted it all down into 1lb ingots, and see that they are distinctly golden in color. Not the same silvery white color that lead/antimony alloys have.
