I have been working with WC820 in my 44 mag with the lyman 429421. I tried 16gr then 17gr on my way up. Started low according to the Lyman #48. It states 17.5 as a starting load.
Here is what my pact chrono says. 10ft in front of muzzle.

16gr= 911,958,961,977,918,991,994,989 fps
17gr= 1040,1030,1023,1032,1022,1021,974,1034 fps

Now Lyman says 17.5 gr should get you 711 fps if you use AA9 data

This is a 6" barrel Virginian Dragoon

What are your thought on this.
I will get the lot number off the jug later.

Lot number 47320

Jug says "this powder is 10% faster than H110. Reduce H110 by 10%"
If that is so, I should use 21.6 gr of this powder to start with cause 48 says 24gr is a starting load for H110

No, Jeff, that label is just that. Start at 18.5 with a 250 grainer in the 44 maggie. ... felix

Listen to Felix on this. Differernt lots of this powder can be much faster than others. 21.6grs. of the lot I have would be a very heavy load!

So what is this lot close to, or how do I arrive at a starting load for a given cartridge??

Assume AA9. From your first post, you have already assumed this. Fine. Your chrono indicates you are shooting a little light for that boolit. 18.5 should be OK for that gun assuming you don't get recoil shy, like I would. If switching to a gas checked 250 grainer, drop one full grain from the load you settle on with the naked boolit. ... felix

Just to chime in here - I'm at 19.1 of my 820 with a Lee 310GC CCI 350 with no psi.
But has to be close. Will have to put it over the chrono yet - Brass comes out easy and
primers look good (IMI cases) Recoil is on par with my regular hunting loads (Keith)
Accuracy is not where I want it yet and if I can't better it with sizing and alloy I'll
go back to my stand by 421 and work up with 820 as I'm trying to change over from
2400 due to the jugs I have on hand.
DW44 6"
With my lot I was going to start at 18.5 and the 421 figured the cap would come in
around 22 or 23 by the way it has acted so far.

Did some more shooting yesterday.

17.5 gr av 1075
up to 19gr av 1225

The 17.5 was pretty accurate as was 18gr [1120fps]
As I moved up the charges the groups opened up. Mayhaps it was the recoil.
Shooting 25yds off of a metal bench with sadbags. Bullet is the lyman 429421
May try the lee tumble lube 240 to see if accuracy is different.
Really wanting to shoot a deer this season with this revolver. Need to be accurate out to about 40yds

No point in shooting beyond your comfort zone. You have enough for 40 yard deer at 1100 muzzle with a 240-265 boolit/bullet. ... felix

Jeff--I have been using the same 47320 lot number of WC820 for many years now. I checked my records and 17.0g of this lot and a 429640HP that weighs 267g gives me a velocity of 1120 to 1150 from a 5" bbl S&W 629 Classic DX. The 250g 429421's loaded up with this current lot of WC820(47320) chrono's 1144 with an SD of 28. I've found that 17.0g of WC820 is a very "comfortable" shooting load and very accurate in all of my .44 mags with many boolit styles. It is my "standard load" for 250 to 270g boolits. Last month I put 5 shots into .701" at 25 yds with this load and a 429421 (round groove).
